Hey, need a new headset and I hope you can help me decide
smily_headphones1.gif

My budget is 100 - 150$
Should work for my Mac Mini*
Don't require an amp
Very comfortable, should be able to wear them 6+ hours

I will mainly use them for Skype chatting, music listning (rap and rock), I love bass and a little bit of gaming, World of Warcraft or GTA IV

I hope you can help me choose

*When I say work, I mean they should sound good with a computer like that :p

P.S. I was thinking of getting something like Griffin Technology: Griffin Microphone Cable - XLR to stereo mini-jack cable because they work for Mac, which many other mics don't, they don't power the mac S:
Or do you know a better solution for an external working Mac mic?

The headset plug-in is normal, like a Windows PC.
It is only the Mic port that is strange on Mac S:

But what will you recommend to get?

From the headphones that I have owned and for your uses (bassy music and hours of comfortable use), I recommend the JVC HA-RX900. It often sells for about $55 shipped. It can be modified for better sound and adjusted for better comfort. And you could buy an amp with the rest of your budget to improve its performance even more. Search "RX900".

I will take a look at the JVC HA-RX900.
But does amps work for Mac?

The Mac mini's input is a line-level compared to the normal amplified mic in on normal PC's. You'd need a compatible USB headset/sound card or get something like the iMic to use a normal headset or headphone+mic combination.

Are you sure?
Becuase, my old broken Creative both worked for my Mac and Windows PC S:

Amps (headphone amplifier) will work regardless of hardware as long as it is fed a analog line-out/sound-out signal. So basically you would hook up an IC (interconnect) from the headphone/line-out of your Mac and then use the headphone with the amp.

As far as I know the Mac mini only has a line-level audio in, i.e. you need an amplified signal somehow to use a regular mic with it. Was your Creative headset connected directly to the audio-in or was there some USB intermediary device that it plugged through? What model was it? I wonder if it was made for the Mac in mind and provided an amplified signal regardless. I think only the older Macs had an amplified line-in port.
