So I got the new grado about a day ago and they sound amazing. So much more punch and bass then my Audio Technica ATH-ES7 and just plain more fun to listen to then my Super.fi 5 v2. They increased the size of the chamber which makes such a difference over the older grado sr-80. So far I listened to some Beatles, Of Montreal, Andrew bird, MF Doom, cut chemist. Again the base on some of the tracks just really make the phones rumble.

They won't be replacing my super fi for the subway anytime soon since they block absolutely no sound but will definitely be my favorite for music/movies/games. They do hurt my ears after a 2-3 hours but I rarely will be using them for that long. Otherwise they feel pretty good.

Anyway here are some pics:

Notice the lager chamber.

The cord is as long and thick as before.

I have a feeling these won't be touched in a while...

In conclusion I'm amazed these $100 are such a joy to listen to. Also amazing is that they were made 20 mins away from my house. (I live very close to the factory

well after some side by side listening I can say the new ones are more punchy, airy bassy and have better highs.

Maybe the pads do make a difference I wouldnt know I never got a chance to interchange

My grado's I know are pretty pad-dependent. Needs to be open between your ear and the driver, and there should be a little distance. The comfies I would think sound a little muffled compared to bowls or modded HD414 pads. I'd love to hear what you think if you ever get a chance to compare the 80 with to 80i with the same pads.

@asmd: the most noticeable differences are the highs and bass

@vkvedam: Yea i was wondering the same thing too

@Emooze Maybe ill try that on over the weekend.

Airy is good. Bassy is good, if it's still "punchy".
What about "better highs", could you quantify it a bit? What makes the highs better?

Congrats on the purchase!
Looking forward to seeing more updates from new Grado owners

I stopped using my Ti-89 Ti as soon as I got out of high school calculus (differential/integral). It's such a crutch when people abuse it. I'm now a senior in Electrical Engineering and grateful that I wasn't allowed to touch the thing in the multivar calculus course I took in college.

I can confirm that my Grado SR225i do not have "i" imprinted anywhere on them either.

@OP

Gratz on ur SR-80i, may it bring you many hours of joyful listening as my SR225i is serving me. Good luck in Multivar calc too, definitely one of the most useful courses I've taken.
