Yus, you heard right.

I'm trying to make a custom case for my amp, and I want a thick piece of unpainted aluminum which I shall give a brushed finish and mount as the front panel on a black case.

Does anyone happen to have any 1/4" or 3/16" thick aluminum? Hmm?

i got some aluminium sheet 1.8mm thick from a local metal work shop. i was driving home one day and noticed the shop along the way, so i pulled in to ask a few questions about drilling/punching holes for panels and i asked if they had any off cuts of aluminium they didnt want, bingo! free rocks

i used it in a project and went to my housemates work (firealarm manufacturer) to use their tools to cut it to the size i needed. so see whether any local metal shops have any spare in the size you need. but 1/4" is pretty darn thick! also the larger hardware stores or trade stores will have it, and its not too pricey iirc.

I've ordered from this place before, and the service is good:

Keep in mind that the brushed finish that you normally see in decorative applications is usually brushed stainless steel. Brushed aluminum is less common and has a different, duller look.

grab ur local yellow pages and search for metal and aluminium supplies. I needed alu for my custom case. Found only a place which sells pannels in 1.2x2.4m sheets for $60AUD. Ended up buying an offcut which was lying on the floor for $8
