Good for you

How do they compare to the k271s? Been wondering if the DT250 is better for rock than the akg.

For straight rock, I like the DT 250-250 better. I think it has a warmer sound and is just plain groovy. However, I think K271S is a strong performer with more folk-oriented rock. Overall, my preference is the DT 250-250 for most rock. However, I think the K271S is a more well-rounded headphone.

Here-here. I just picked up a pair last week. I have never been a fan of closed cans, but my coworkers have been complaning about my Grados recently. I auditioned a few other pairs (Sony 7506, or 7605, I forget, ATH-M40s, and Senn HD-280), and none of the "did it for me" so I took a chance and order a pair of DT250-250s from a feloow headfier. They arrived last week. So far am I very pleased with the sound, but not so much with the comfort. I assume they will loosen up a bit with time, but they feel pretty tight right now. I listen to rock (mostly heavier stuff) and the 250s do very well. Solid bass, well behaved midrange, and sufficient, though not sparlking highs. Overall a great pair of closed cans.

Now to save up for the DT770s...Guitar Center, I am on my way.

Some notes on comfort:

I agree that there is some undesirable clamping force. Hopefully that will go away over time. I love the ear pad material, but the actual ear cups are a bit on the small side. Finally, I do not like the headband.

sorry, I've been debating a 250-250 purchase for almost 2 years now!!!

I didn't know there was a blutak mod for the DT 250, please elaborate.

Also, just go ahead and buy them. I think they're an execellent bang-for-the-buck set of cans. And you can always sell them here.

You are not alone. I too love my DT250/80. I auditioned and returned lot of (open) cans and I found the sound I was looking for.

What else sounds similar to Beyer DT250?

BTW, how does the DT250-250 compare with the HD25-1?

I like the DT 250-250 better. IMO, the HD 25-1 is a good, but very overpriced headphone. But it does have strengths, including portability, good sound, and being easy to drive. I just find the DT 250-250 to be a smoother, groovier can for rock.

I think the super.fi 5 pro is similar to the DT 250.

It is about time we had a DT250-250 love thread around here. They really are a wonderful little headphone. Fortunately they fit me splendidly. I use a pair at work, so they get more listen time than any of my other headphones.

I would put the sound more similar to the Ety ER4s, but with much more bass heft. They are the original "holysh-itbass" cans.

There are no shell resonances, so sticking blue tack everywhere will just make them sticky. They already have damping materials installed. They also have a rather clever method for dealing with shell internal reflections, so be careful not to goof that up.

The most amazing thing about the DT250, though, is that Sleepy still does not have a pair! Dude, what are you waiting for?

edit: forgot to mention, the DT250-250 sound quite different than the DT250-80. The 250 ohm version are easy to drive loud, even with a portable like the ipod. There is really no compelling reason to go with the 80 ohm version.
