I love Ety ER4's, but is there something better? Asking other poeple who love(d) the ER4(P/S) only, please :)

Drop me a mail at skeptic@noncommital.org when the debate is over.

UE11 certainly are a completely different animal than the ER-4/Phonak/q-Jays... I like different approaches, but for a sworn Ety lover they are probably not the right thing.

Yeah the Ety price point is very attractive. I haven't seen many favorable comparisons to them on these boards with headphones that weren't at least $300. And even then, besides the fact that the bass could probably benefit from a little more impact, IMHO the Etys are good enough that it's difficult to say that they're fundamentally flawed in any way, rather than simply not necessarily fitting somebody's personal tastes.

I've been using the er4p's for a little over 4 years now and have never felt the need for anything else. As a side note I also have a powerbook G4, which is what I listen to them out of mostly, and the headphone jack on that particular laptop drives them wonderfully.

I just got a pair of Shure e530's for Christmas and have been using them the past week. On the go I use an Iriver Clix 2 with the ety's which sounds great, and have been using that with the Shure's as well. I like both headphones, they're just different. At home I use Grado SR 225's and HD 650s. Bass is definitely better on the Shure's, maybe not as tight as some might like with certain songs, but the mid range is awesome. That's one of the things I like about the Grados.

I can't say the Shure's are an upgrade, but as many have said anything that isn't the er4 is probably more a sidestep than a definite upgrade. One thing I do find odd, which some people have mentioned, is that there are songs where I'd like more bass from the etys but then there are some songs where it just delivers it dead on. If it could do that all the time, I wouldn't ask for more from an IEM. Until then I think I'll just be switching back and forth from the Shures and Etys when I feel like it.

Again, not a upgrade but sidegrade recommendation. The NuForce 8-M sound alot like my Ety 4s. Neutral, clear. They are much more forgiving for loud recordings. Also, they're cheaper.

That's a good point - I should have guessed that.

Thanks for the interest. As the shape of the SR-001 isn't easy to deal with I expect the custom sleeves won't be perfect in the first attempt. That's why I have them produced locally in Zurich, Switzerland. This way having them optimized will be less time-consuming and expensive.

Definitely would be interested in how this works out - preferably with pics

They say the klipsch image compete with ety's. I've read many posts comparing the flat response of the ety to the response of the klipsch. Only difference is klipsch has more bass. I've also read posts that compare the sound quality to the SE530!

I've had a pair of the 4P's for a number of years. I'm a detail guy, so I do like them for that. However, when I upgraded to UE-10's it was no contest: detail + plus everything else! When I switch back to the etys, they sound thin and shrill. That said, it's maybe not a fair comparison when you consider price & custom fit. What about other ety/UE-10 owners out there? Do you think the UE's maintain the detail of the etys, while balancing the sound across the frequency spectrum?

I find it hard because everything else sounds extremely colored in comparison.

I own the er-4p along with the westone 3 among others....as much as i love the westones as well as the shures they all sound bloated relative to the etymotic.....i keep buying new in ear phones and keep returning to the etyomotics...i do like the x10 as well.....

A few months ago I got Shure SE530s and fell in love with the midrange on these earphones. They are lush and full. The Shures are non-fatiguing and do well with a variety of genres IMO.

So I still have the Etymotics when I want a very energetic listen and the Shures for when I want a more mellow and warm listen. The mids on the Shures are amazing though, that is what keeps me from ordering the new Westones.

Have to completely agree. Just got the SE530's (mid range is very nice) but I think I like my ER4 more.
