HELP ME CHOOSE A NEW MID-LEVEL IEM!! PLEASE!
I lost my E4c somehow. I've grown very careless and forgetful lately. Leaving a bag full of $500+ of baseball gear the batting cage (recovered, but not after replacing the gear), losing a $200 pair of IEMs... Sigh...
Anyway, I really liked the E4c, and I'm looking for a new pair of IEMs - I'm willing to spend a MAX of $250.
The E4c were really good - I loved their mids, they had "enough" bass, and their highs were rolled-off slightly, but that didn't bother me. They were also super comfortable - I used the tri-flanges, but I cut them down to bi-flanges.
As far as full-sized cans go, I really like my DT880 and my K601. I think if I had to grab one that I'd grab the K601 because there hasn't been anything that I listened to that sounded bad. Some recordings sound bad with the DT880 - Steely Dan's "Katy Lied" album, for example (I have it on CD).
These replacements for the E4c will be used primarily with my iPod Nano and Hornet headphone amp. My mp3 files are at 256 kbps. There will be times when I listen to the Nano un-amped or with a PA2v2. Also, there will be times when I use the IEMs with my PC rig - Micro-DAC feeding either the Hornet or Micro Amp.
I listen to lots of stuff - I am open to all kinds of contemporary music, and although I like classical and jazz, I hardly ever listen to it. iTunes tells me that my most played songs are by AC/DC, Lynard Skynrd, Motley Crue, The Police, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Hoodoo Grus, Black Sabbath, Roxy Music, Steely Dan, King Crimson, Elvis Costello, Aztec Camera, and Dire Straits.
So, with that background information, what IEM would be worth investigating for me? I don't even mind if y'all tell me to stick with another E4c. The only thing I didn't like about it was that the rubber that formed the joint between the earpiece and cord broke.
