I know it sounds crazy but ... NWA Straight Outta Compton, good reference?

Lots of Highs, lots of BASS LOWS, lots of different stereo separation (music and sound effects), lots of different Vocal Ranges. I noticed many differences with testing my KSC75's, KSC35's and MDR-7506 with this album.

More testing will commence, so I can throughly test all of my cans.

I can't say I've ever heard the album, but if you know it well enough and it's varied enough in its stylistic components, it should make for a great reference. All references are relative of course; familiarity with the album is paramount in comparing it on different equipment.

Early rap and hiphop can be just mastered just as well as any other genre before the volume wars. Personally I love the Beastie Boys' "Paul's Boutique" and Run DMC's "Tougher than Leather" - both from (or preceding) NWA's album. Good stuff!
