Congratulations! I hate to tell you this, but you've started down the slippery slope. There is no going back. Most people claim that they can't hear the difference between $25 players and $1000 players or between $500 speakers and $20k speakers. That's not true. Most people do hear a difference, a big difference. They just don't care enough about the music to invest that kind of money. Now that you've taken the plunge, you'll never listen to music the same way again.

Let us know how it goes.

Yes indeed, Head-Fi is an expensive place to hang out - and most of us are addicted to it.

I have probably spent over $6000 on audio equipment since finding Head-Fi - a modest amount compared to some of us addicts.

Congrats. The 588 is a very nice player. Definitely consider an upgraded power cord and interconnect after you have gotten familiar with the player. At the very least, consider trying them with the return option that many cable manufacturers offer. The 588 deserves good cables. Take the ABX tests with a grain of salt. Once you have listened to the 588 for awhile with your favorite music, you will be the best judge of whether a better cord or cable is worth it. If not, send them back.

yeah and if I dont sell my current player (nad542) then I can trade it in at thew place I bought it from and get my full $450 back I paid....towards something else...

maybe some $500 interconnects? one of those cool looking monster power line thingys? or maybe I can get a actual Audio rack..which now my gear is one a wood small foldable table..lol!

this is what companies I have to choose from
http://www.holmaudio.com/productLines.htm

of course i will have to pay full retail on the item but I still got $450 credit.
or I can sell the nad for $350 cash....

which should I do?

I probably woudn't let the credit you have lock you into a particular cable manufacturer or a specific price. I think there is a real benefit to being able to try different cables with your rig and returning what you don't like and keeping what you finally determine sounds best. It took me several weeks of switching out interconnects to find what sounded best in my system. Thus, I'd be inclined to sell the NAD so you have more flexibility, or save the $450 credit from Holm Audeofor something else (maybe a rack or something). That's just my $.02, which is worth what you paid for it.

Looks like they carry Nordost. Put the $450 credit towards a set of Nordost Valhalla interconnects and you're good to go.
