Berkeley-Fi!!
I just submitted my SIR for Berkeley EECS and will be attending this Fall! I was torn between UCSD and Berkeley, but I ultimately decided on Berkeley EECS for a few reasons. First of all, I found the campus and its surroundings much more comfortable than I did UCSD. I really dig that urban environment and there seems to be so much to do both around and off of campus; the campus just seems much more lively and exciting than UCSD. Second of all, I know that everybody says that you shouldn't look too much into a name/prestige, but I think that Berkeley EECS will open more doors for me than UCSD. Apparently companies actively recruit students from Berkeley EECS, and I think getting that first job or so will be much easier with a degree from Berkeley. I plan on going to graduate school, so I think that going to Berkeley is the wise thing to do in order to maximize my chances of getting into a good grad school. And thirdly, I'm very intrigued by the supposed insane difficult of the EECS program. I love to face academic challenges, and I think the more challenged I am, the more I get out of myself. I know that it's going to be no walk in the park, and that I will likely start seeing grades I've never seen before, but I think it's time to step it up to the next level. I look forward to those long, grueling nights doing labs
(Or maybe I will be regretting these words six months from now
)
I finally came to my decision today when I was on a tour of the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center. I really disliked the campus and didn't find it very comfortable at all, and then I started thinking about just how comfortable I felt at UCSD and Berkeley. One thing led to another and I finally decided that Cal is the place for me. I guess what I'm trying to say is...
