Just got the 4 GB version at Best Buy.
Sony S636...and I cannot believe that it sounds better than my Sony A816 which I thought sounded good.

The S636 is even better in the highs and mids now, and really feels like I'm right there with the singer.

But...

My question is...is any of the Cowon still better, has anyone here tried both the new Sony S630 series and the Iaudio7, D2 or even the Cowon U5?

I am very satisfied with the Sony S630...but I'll always wonder if the Cowon's are still better. I know with Cowon you can tweak it more, but with the Sony, I just had to make very slight adjustments and sounds incredible.

Your thoughts?

umm, I think the general consensus is that the s636 sounds better than the iaudio7 and cowon d2 players. I have not tried the s636, so I can't say for sure.

100 PERCENT WITHOUT A DOUBT YOU WILL NOT REGRET UPGRADING TO THE S630's...i am pretty much putting a GUARANTEE on it.

all sound great with the Sony. Trust me, i couldn't believe the difference....you will notice RIGHT AWAY even without high end phones

btw...the Creative EP830 is very under-rated.
If you ever upgrade, you will NEVER regret it.

Is the difference so great with the A81x series that it warrants a full upgrade?

okay, after listening some more, if you like more DETAIL in your music in the mids and highs, then you will want to upgrade to S63x series for sure. But it's not as detailed as say the D2 or as harsh.
