I've had the hd650 for probably the better part of a year now and have tried them on a number of amps but then my Gilmore Lite arrived and I now know what I was missing....the senn hd650 driven by the headamp gilmore lite really opened up and revealed itself. The veil or the overwhelming film was lifted and what was left was detail, clarity, and a very nicely improved soundstage. I never expected such a difference.

Yup. Just avoid hearing them balanced, because then your wallet will never recover.

I use RSA HR-2 with my HD650. The amp gives it a tighter bass and louder treble, and it's more revealing than ever. Hopefully a better CD player will take them to another level.

Thats how it goes.
It starts with a nice heaphone, but fast expand into dedicated amplifiers, DAC's, cables, ...
