Hi,
I'm a new member, this is my first post. I am a musician and have been using my universal Westone UM Pro30 IEMs for about 3 years, playing in a bar band. They have been OK. My bandmates all have custom IEMs, like Ultimate Ears and 1964, and so I thought I'd try improving my experience by getting my IEMs reshelled, or by getting custom tips. I started reading threads on here, and decided to get my impressions made at a local audiologist (I paid $50). Now I've been reading more threads, and it sounds like reshelling might be risky, and I've read mixed reviews about custom tips such as the UM56. I feel like I may have wasted $50.00 :-). Can anyone who has done the reshelling or the custom tips offer me any advice? Should I just write off the 50 dollars and stop now and be happy with my Westone Truefit foam tips, or take the plunge into reshelling or custom tips (and if so, which one?). For reshelling, I was considering inearz.
Thanks!
Joel

Well when you reshell, you have to take the risk that whoever is reshelling your IEM may screw up. For example, whoever reshelled my SE846 decided not to properly seal the ports on BA which changed the sound really drastically. Fortunately for me though, I ended up liking the change, suits my taste more but I doubt others will be as lucky.

Lets go under the assumption they don't screw up though, your CIEM will still sound different from the UIEM due to the nature of CIEM bypassing the ear canal, which has it's own resonance frequency.

Personally, if you ask me, I wouldn't go through with the reshell, getting a new CIEM would be much better.

The reason I personally reshelled mine was because I broke the female connector on my IEM and the repair price was much higher than the reshell cost.
