I stopped in a used record/cd shop today just to check it out as I had not been there before. The place had tons of vinyl and cd's. If it wasn't for the fact that my son was with me and I was supposed to be taking him to the skatepark, I would still be there. I ended up buying Keith Jarrett Solo Concerts (double vinyl), Keith Jarrett - The Koln Concert (vinyl), Oscar Peterson - Walking the Line (vinyl) and a 20 cd box set The Complete Miles Davis at Montreux 1973 - 1991 in mint condition.

Help! If I keep this up I will end up on a street corner with a sign that says "I will work for vinyl" I am I alone in this afflication?

Too late sucker, you had the chance to ban yourself from Head-Fi the moment you got here. Sorry about your wallet!

So what your telling me is that I am doomed. To make matters worse, I am waiting to take my daughter to a used cd place not far from here. The last time I went into that store I bought John Coltrane and a Miles Davis box sets. This will be a test in willpower. I will try to walk out of there with only a couple of cd's for the Christmas exchange.

if you have the money, then by all means.

some people do have serious compulsive addictions which are unhealthy. we laught about it alot here, and for most it's not a serious problem, but if you really feel like you are compelled to buy something then you may want to really look for some sort of help.

i try to buy one album at a time and really enjoy it for a long period of time.

yes, i know that when you're in a used music shop there are some albums that are simply "too good not to buy at that price" but there are always those deals.

cheers and hope it's not freakin you out too much!

Destined to spend more than doomed. Hope that they do not like your music. My son liked many of the CD's I had and when he went to college they seemed to disappear. I have since replaced most of the missing ones. I have found a thrift store nearby where I look for good used vinyl. I found a large batch of mint rock albums with about an inch of water damage on the jacket. A good cleaning and they sounded great. $0.33/lp not too bad. There are just too many stores in the Chicago area. You should get a Chicago client and we could go on a trip of the area, maybe even lure Tuberoller along.

I actually have a client in Schaumberg. I have been trying to get up there for the past couple of months. Hopefully, I will be there in Jan. or Feb. I will definitely let you guys know.

I made it out of the store and only bought phildox his Christmas cd. I have one more challenge for the day. I will be stopping in at the audio shop that also sells vinyl. If I can make it out of there with only paying for my speakers and stands, then there is hope.

You have my sympathy. The last decent record store in this town closed about five years ago, and my music collection stabilized. Life was good. I no longer cringed when my credit card statement appeared in the mail. Then I dscovered Amazon.com and similar sites . . .

And the Music Forum doesn't help.

Well, if you upgrade to a Scout and need to sell that P3, send me a PM - I'll give it a good home. And enjoy the vinyl!

I feel your pain, the local used vinly and cd store in our neighborhood has some hidden treasures in there if you have the time to plumb through the numerous used vinyl bins that are there. To make matters worse this place not only sells used vinyl and cds but also old books and collectible comics. I try to stay far and away from there as my wallet would surely take a hit if I go into the store.

By all means do not visit Music Direct online and ask for a catalog:

www.amusicdirect.com

They have pages of new and reissued vinyl. If you are in Chicago they have a few bins of opened new records for cheap. Some may have a flaw or a perceived flaw on one track.

Isn't finding a great used vinyl shop a bitch? I had the same fortune a while ago finding "The Beat" here in the River City. I do there at least once every couple of weeks, and I always find at least 5 albums in immaculate condition. Not only do we have the "how much money did I spend on vinyl this visit" issue, but we also have the "holy cow, where am I going to store all of this great vinyl and have it displayed proudly?" issue going for us. I ended up buying another Gothic Record Cabinet.

Ain't it fun?

Heck, I got tired of using Kazaa Lite a while back. The quality of the MP3's you find online, even the full albums on bittorrent and such, are just not CD quality. Heck, they're not even decent MP3 quality. I have some 256 kbps mp3's that sound like total crap because these idots can't rip them right. I say just buy the things. Full CD quality, no hassles.
