so i ended up taking the full text of the hobbit and turining it into a color poster. the end product is incredible, but the first 5 lines of text got cut off, so i'll proablly end up tweaking some things and make a version 2.0. the finished file was about 400 megs and it took about 45 minuets for the print server to spool. here's some waay downrezed pics for your enjoyment.

Jagwire: if you're serious about paying my costs, i'd gladly ship you some print outs... might as well share the love. also you should check out the EM spectrum poster from the same site.. it's pretty cool

oh, and that skins.be site.. muy bueno!

No problem. Just give me an estimate of costs, I am sure it'de be less then that 40 USD that site wants. Can you take a picture of your PI one though, I'm kind of lost of what type of paper it was printed on and what it looks like. Also, I know it's 24x36, but I'de love to see a picture of it to get a better idea of what it looks like. Only pi, prime and e is cool to me, the other one isn't so cool.

Can I get a high res of that hobbit image?

. Where'de you get the text though, like was it pre-done on a site, or did you have a ebook or something and copy and pasted it into something?

jagwire: pm sent

the photoshop source for the hobbit file is about 400 megs, and the compressed jpeg is 70... so it'd be a little tough to send them over the internet... Sorry

the way i made it was to take the ebook text of the hobbit and remove the paragraph marks. i then found an illistration i liked through google. i pasted the two into photoshop, then set the photo layer as a clipping mask and touched up the whole thing to look right. took me maybe 2 hours due to the speed of the computer. i was switching between a few other computers in the lab doing video editing stuff, so it wasn,t really time wasted. the end product was totally worth it.

Awesome! A couple of shakespaere ones would be amzazing to show off at school. For example, we're now doing Twelfth Night, man would I love to show off a neat 16x21 of that.

well i printed off a few more today. so i think i'm done for now.
i also found this site for high resolution movie posters.

the hobbit poster turned out so cool i might put up a website saying how i did it, add the finished file, and submit it to digg. the people over there like that sort of dorkeyness. ( does anyone know if that would be illeagal? wouldn't the file be considered a derivitave work?)

thanks to everyone for the ideas.. you relly helped spruce up my walls. here's a picture of part of my newly decorated room:
