Umm, hi.

New here. Was lurking and im deeply confused and anxious.

All i need is a faboulous sounding player which is going to be in combo with Shure 530 or Etymotic ER4P (need a hint with that also, since i have small ears so comfort is in order as i sleep listening)

What's important to me:

¤ absolutely to die sound
¤ battery life

What's not so important:

¤ bass
¤ design


Sorry to disturb with this kinda unchallenging dilemma.

I think based on what I've read here, and the questions i asked... They'll recommend the Sony.

replace zen with zune 16 and it will be equal fight. my vote will be sony A829 just due to this simple reason, DRAG AND DROP !

SQ wise the A829, or A729 (no bluetooth on A729), both sound amazing. Also, you could opt for the newer S Series from Sony. Smaller form factor, 40hrs battery life (vs33 for the A729/829), an FM tuner, and as some have mentioned, an even cleaner sound. I'd go S Series myself. It goes to 16gb (the US has yet to see the 16gb model, damnit!!!), and it's on my "Most Wanted" list of players.

If you can get the Sony player, try it out. Decide if you need an amp after you've listened to 1 a bit.

Okay, here's the list of available's:

¤ all 16gb

829 is the most pricey one, assuming because tooth is blue. Dunno if that's going to be useful, only thing i own with BT is Mio GPS and tomorrow's baby nokia n82. Prolly not worth extra 90$.

Noticed that s739 supports wav and has clear stereo and bass options.

It comes to 739 against 639.


PS. Ignorance was bliss. Before head-fi i would just get nano with some nicer looking phones.

The A829 (I have this Sony Myself) is also more expensive because it's the only 1 you've listed that is 16gb. The other 2 are 8gb players. The last number designates what the capacity is.
XXX8 = 8gb & XXX9 = 16gb
Sony is kinda' weird with how the number their players. Also, the S638 is the newest player, and supposed to be the best sounding 1, no hiss is present. The S738 model is the "Noise Canceling" model. It has a hardware noise canceling feature built into it, and MUST be used w/the supplied HP's to work. Best bet, if you want an 8gb player, is the S638 IMO.

639 = 201$
739 = 245$
829 = 285$

So to sum it up... 639 would be the best pick (16gb and hiss reduced)?

S639 all the way. The S729 is still the noise canceling 1, so skip that. I'm very much jealous ATM!!! Sweet player, what colors are available?
