what If I used my ety's with a great big closed headphone over them, but have the drivers crossed over for the deep bass lacking in the ety's. I could still get the crystal clear sound through the ety's but also the brain rumbling Bass from the larger cans? Am I an idiot for thinking this? what would a full symphony sound like with this? Is it worth a try?

this doesnt exactly sound safe for your hearing...i imagine you'll need a fair amount of volume to get those lower frequencies through the etys and into your ears

The main principle behind Ety's, and their magic, is that your ear canal is completely sealed, and that the sound does not escape outwardly at all. With a proper seal, there is nothing to be reflected back by any external circumaural chamber. It will just keep your ears warm.

I've said it once, and I'll offer it again. Try the ButtKicker. It's meant to attach to the bottom of your seat for some butt kicking bass. But hm. Brain rumbling bass you say? No problem. Just add the cost for like a motorcycle helmet, attach the ButtKicker onto it, and I bet your brain would really rumble! Caution, may cause blurred vision during use.

do you find yourself turning up the volume a little higher than is comfortable to feel more bass? in which case you may be damaging your hearing.

Isn't there also a sort of bass-shaker vest, or chest cover, designed to be used in gaming?

Ah, yes, here we are: http://www.vrealities.com/intervest.html

I'm getting the idea that this may have been brought up before.

Anyway, as all ety owners know...they dont keep all ambient noise out. most, yes, but not all. Now, I've got an old pair of cheap sony (MDR-CD60) headphones. wouldn't it be cool to hear how that would sound in conjunction with the ety's? Come on guys... agree with me on this. you all are just jealous that you didn't think of it first! hehe! Just think of the glass shattering cymbal crash and the gut rumbling kettle drum. It would be heaven for a music whore like me

I say go for it dude, it sounds like a great idea. It shouldn't damage your hearing at all as long as the volume level of each phone is at a resonable level. I think Etys and a sony V6 would make a wonderful combination. Hopefully it will work and you'll get the clean bass of the Etys while feeling the bass rumble of other phones on your outer ear--then again the sound from the other phones may just interfior with the sound from the Etys. No matter what, though, you're going to have to try it.

Since you have the ER-6 phones I think this will work. ER-6 will fit under another headphone. I can say that the low notes are the ones that don't get filtered as much as higher tones do, so you should pick up the bass from the Sony phones and maybe block out the crappy mids and highs. You shouldn't need much more volume than normal.

Good luck, let us know how it works out.

It has, though in different ways. Some AKG K1000 users use a subwoofer for the bottom octave and crossover the remaining frequencies to the headphones to make up for the missing bass. But in the case of Ety's, the bass is not in fact missing, just not visceral. I personally think you are missing the point of Ety's if you use a subwoofer, because the magic of the Ety's is in their absolutely smooth, neutral balanced sound, rather than in punch and excitement. Get a pair of Beyer 770's to use when you want thump.

thamks all. I'm not a bass head by any stretch of the imagination, I jsut miss the lows in my music when I use my ety's. I'll give it a try and report back.

And on the bright side, when people start talking to you, you can take off the circum/supra-aural headphones and pretend to be paying attention, all the while still listening on your etys and nodding along to the music, not the person. Works for me!

Ive seen some headphones that have a vibrating band that goes behind your head. It's not real bass, it just gives the impression of bass as your head rattles. I'm looking for the link but I cant find it (ill keep looking)
I think it could work with this experiment of yours.
