i thought i liked video games, but i do not. i have a ps2 and a gamboy adv sp. every damn game stresses me out, and i suck at them.

i liked video games when i was a kid, and was really good at them. i do not know if the games got harder or what. i'm pissed because i thought i liked gaming but every time i sit down to play i give up in frustration. this sucks hard. why the hell would i want to do something that gives me hand cramps, pisses me off, and stresses me out so much i sweat? i'm fricking done.

/"king of swing" and "ratchet: deadlocked" were the last straws for me. and these are supposed to me "easy" games. i nearly gave myself a coronary trying to get that fricking ape up the screen. i'm done. that's it. finished. i'm ready to put that sh!t in storage.

There are relatively easy games. I'm actually playing Okami right now, the puzzles aren't mind-bogglers and it's nearly impossible to die. (which I haven't, and I'm at least half-way)

i'm telling you all games seem hard to me now. when i was a kid i used to close down the arcade on one quarter in battlezone or pinball. now? just frustrating. i'll play at most five minutes and get bored or get frustrated.

why this frustrates me so is i really REALLY want to like video games, but i have to admit i do not. when i'm at the store and see ps2 or gbasp games i am really tempted to buy, then i think, "i'll play this one or two times, then give up or get bored."

i thought, maybe if i get a wii the gameplay will improve and i will get back into it. but i'm not buying it.

has the gameplay changed all that much from the 70's and 80's? perhaps i should just stick to mame.

It looks like you'll need a DS or any old school NES, Snes games. Recently I don't have much time to play games and I prefer to get a pick up & play games (ex: Snes punch-out, DS wario touch, etc) which I can play for 15-20 mins for fun and get on with things that I have to do.

Ratchet: Deadlocked is not a hard game. Maybe your reflexs are starting to go.

If you really want to have a good time, go get a copy of Ikaruga, haha.

I have to second the recommendation Okami. It is a stunningly beautiful game that is very easy, but also very entertaining and quite fulfilling to play.

I think I understand where he's coming from. It's not that you can't get better at those nail-biting adrenaline-pumping games, it's that the feeling they give simply is Not.Fun and you don't care to try. Sure the graphics are just awesome, but what good is that if you're fighting the controls or have camera angle issues the entire time? What good are the graphics if it's not fun?

Pacman, Freeway, Pole Position, Pong, runs circles around those games.

But it's not all bad. Guitar Hero II is a lot of fun, as is Wii Sports, or Rayman Rabid Rabbids on Wii. Ridge Racer 2 on PSP is just the right ratio of driving arcade, and Hot Shots on PSP is a nice time-waster... although it pales in comparison to Everybody's Golf (the first one) on PS One (I think?). Circuit Breakers was a great PS One fav of ours that never got much publicity, and Final Fantasy VII (PS One) is a great one to fire up every now and then. Show of hands, how many, for no real reason because you don't need to, defeated the Emerald monster without removing the countdown?
Speaking of PS One, The Abe series of platformers had great attitude, right up until it went 3d.

I was never a huge gamer but I do like games that are fun to play. Currently I've got Ridge Racer and Tekken going on the PSP, and I've got Final Fantasy III (just awesome!) going on Nintendo DS, along with some Uno-Poker and 42 card game classics... and finally Guitar Hero II for Xbox 360.

The fun games are still around, but the overwhelming selection of what I'd call graphics rich and fun poor games on PS2 is why that console sits in a closet.

for starters, you can always get online gaming strategy "help" if you are stuck.

second, if you have a hard time playing these adventure games, try playing some sports games. they are easy and very fun. even if you lose, there isnt that feeling on being stuck at a certain level or stage.

for ps2, i would suggest trying out God of War before you say you are done with games. this is one heck of a game that gets your blood pumping. it's just a straight up action/adventure game. very few puzzles to solve. all you do is just kill of tons of enemies. and if you get stuck, go online and find some "help." play that game and i guarantee you wont come back and say you still hate gaming.

i have tried driving games, sports games, rpg (ugh!), platformers, twitch shooters, music shooters, pc, puzzle, just about everything out there except morpg (which i have zero interest in). i have been playing video games since pong came out in the early 70's. i think i have played just about every kind of video game there is. if i get stuck i have no problem reading walkthroughs.

maybe i'll try gow sometime. but right now i seriously doubt one game will change my mind. i think i have finally outgrown one of my previous hobbies, and i do not want to.

I've been playing Prince of Persia: Warrior Within for the last couple weeks, sporadically for maybe 15 minutes at a time. I understand completely where you're coming from. I still get addicted to RPG's but this instant reflex stuff is killing me.

You've probably just grown out of gaming. I used to play like crazy as a kid, but the last few years I've almost lost all interest. I've only begun gaming everyday now because it's summer vacation and I'm in need of a job.

i tried some of the final fantasy games, among other rpg's going all the way back to "zork". the newer rpg's are--to me anyway--mindbogglingly stupid in plot, repetative beyond endurance, with cutscenes that have all the cinematic subtlety of a soap-opera. if these games are supposed to suck me in, fire my imagination, and addict me, i am REALLY the wrong market for this stuff.

-edit-
kirosia,
you are probably right. i'm on a break from work, and was bored today, and thought i could distract myself with a few hours of ratchet & clank. after about five attempts at the easiest level to race those ficking hoverbikes, i was done. looking back, i cannot lie to myself anymore that this was an isolated problem.

I don't know what it is about FF7, the script is bad, the cut scenes are as you say, the turn based combat is....turn based combat. They had to add 2 extra monsters because the final boss was too easy. You could beat the game without going through some of the stuff like breeding the Chocobos and getting the extra materias and ultimate weapons. Hell, you could miss collecting one of the characters and still beat the game. Warts and all, it was something special.

I don't understand how Wii Sports and Guitar Hero II are not fun...
