Hi. I just bought an Ipod Classic. I use to have a Creative microphoto. I have so many MP3's and I want to sync it to my new Ipod. However I can't use WMP. Are there any other options..... I want to have a good archive of my songs and also how do I use lossless for Ipod on my new CDs. Thanks.

MEDIAMONKEY!

It is very full featured, just like itunes - But can be customized out the wazooo.

MEDIAMONKEY beta 3 works with the Classic - just won't sync photos or video yet - you have to use itunes for that from what I gather . . . check out their site - and go into their forums to find the new bets, and read the discussion on syncing with the new ipod.

I don't have a new ipod or intend on ever getting one - So I havene't read about it in depth - but I saw the information there.

EDIT:

here - trying to steal some screenshots from some of their users.

How about some alternatives for iTunes on the Mac. Are they any decent ones?

Uh... I thought the Classic iPod locked you into iTunes? I don't think it can be used with any other program. There's a pretty big thread I strated on this topic, but didn't check back.

You should check back, people are figuring out how to get around iTunes for the Classic.

Why do you hate threads asking for other options...?

You can use media monkey to do the synching, but for an everyday player I really like foobar2000. Also, you can put rockbox on your ipod so you can put songs on it just by opening the drive in explorer (or whatever it is for mac). And rockbox enables lossless playback too among other things.

Rockbox doesn't support new iPod yet (will they ever?)...I wish they do...

I agree with you, for music playback Foobar2000 is an ideal choice.

as for syncing to iPod, musicmonkey works well, not sure about Classic though.

Either because the topic is overdone, or because when others don't like what he likes it throws his whole life into question. It does for me. I get lethargic and eat ice cream.

I despise iTunes (use it to manually load files). I think users of iTunes on Windows fall into three categories: a) it works well for them [6%], b) they're too ignorant to realize something's wrong with it [93%] or c) other [1%]. I'd wager that most of the people on Head-Fi who use iTunes are knowledgeable enough to know whether it's working well for them or not, so I understand why there are hurt feelings when people agree en masse that it stinks.

I get by myself with a mix of iTunes for loading, Yamipod for cleaning up the mess iTunes makes, and Foobar for playing.

Then for Mac there's PodWorks. I'd peruse their forum though as I'm not sure everything works perfectly yet.
