so im sitting here with a pair of SR60's on my head, with reveresed yellow 414 pads. for what i payed, these are already outperforming most headphones ive had, the midrange on these is projecting itself right out at me, and the highs are so clear and ride beautifully atop everything. why the hell didnt i go grado in the first place?

i wouldnt go grado based off the bass from the SR60's but i will get a higher end grado im sure of it. right after i find a good amp (and somehow afford it) for my HFI-2200's

so, i think my next purchase is probably going to involve another pizza box, as these are a gift to a close friend of mine....

I felt that from my (relatively short) auditioning time at an audio store, that the SR-325i is a much more refined version of the SR-60, and that I really liked the SR-325i.

The SR-225 however was completely different to me in terms of sound signature. Sounded very neutral, and to me was a very good headphone indeed, but I much preferred the sound that I got from the 325i.

Just my 2 cents.

the SR325i is probably what i will eventually be buying. i first want a good balanced amp for my HFI-2200's though

i have sampled the sennheiser sound on a few occasions, ive heard the 650, even though not properly amped, the 555 and the 595, i didnt really like any of them. the grado sound i like though.

The ultrasone sound is kind of edging its way off the pedastal. though i still love them for gaming (and personally find them unrivaled in this erea), i am finding there are more fun headphones available for music.

Good for you. Now you have heard phones from both ends of the spectrum, and you are starting to get a 'feel' for what it is you enjoy in a headphone sound signature. Now you can branch off and start exploring other makes and models from here.

It would appear that you are really enjoying the SR-60s, and are already talking about upgrades (don't forget to grab a MAD Ear+ HD, once the inevitable RS-1 purchase is complete). As a Grado fan myself, maybe I can point you in the right direction. After ~3 years, and many thousands of dollars spent, my favorite phones, by far, are the following (in no particular order):

Grado PS-1
Grado RS-1
Grado HP-2
AKG K-1000
Denon D5000

Feel free to check my profile for other phones that didn't quite make the grade...

I would guess that your wallet is starting to curl up into a fetal position in the corner of your room and starting to weep right aboooouuutt.... now.

Yep, that's how it happens - the beginning of the end if you will.

I already said many times in the past that every Head-Fier should be required (at the very least) to sample the Grado house sound as well as the Sennheiser house sound, and then go from there.

Yeah!

Congrats, my first experience was a used SR80. For my next purchase, I'm going to get a brand new one, the experience will probably be 10x better.

i hope it isnt a slight disapointment at first, maybe as you heard a used one it sounded good due to use prompting you to buy a new one, which may initially not sound as good as those remembered halcyon days???

god i am pessimistic tonight.

Get another SR-80 or a different Grado?

Xin...congrats on your purchase. It only gets better from here...even though "here" is a pretty good place to be.

I go through strange moods with my Grados...the RS-1s will sound good one day, and then the 325is the next, and today I preferred my SR-80s over my 325is.

haha congrats! i just got a pair of sr60s myself, sealed and fresh from TTVJ. I can't afford much because of school, but the sr60s are heavensent within my price range. I just hope I can resist the 325is!
