Today, I had the pleasure of putting the Sony MDR-CD3000's over my ears for the first time. It was the sound I was searching for, not that other cans were bad, but these have that something special. The crisp highs of my SA5K's, combined with bass that's not boomy, or overly apparent, but full, and slightly emphasized. Very easily driven by my Slam. The only thing that is a bit of nit picking, is the fact that they feel like they are going to fall of my head at times, But I am not going on any hiking trips, anytime soon with these. Overall, a wonderfull sounding set of cans.

I think it's no doubt going to be a long and hard battle, between the CD3000, and the DT990 Pro, as to which I preffer the most for rocking out. My MS-1 is also a very good candidate. We will see!

I have a feeling you might be in for a surprise when you hear a pair of K701s. Your description of the CD3000s is pretty damn close to how I would describe the K701s (except for the slightly emphasized bass part).

Please keep in mind I have only spent about 4 hours so far with the K701s, so things are sure to change with burn-in (for better or worse is yet to be seen).

I was thinking about how the K701 might sound, yet I'm not sure if they will have the big Sony's detail. This CD3000 is very close to the SA5K in the upper region of the frequency graph, and very detailed.

I doubt they are going to get worse. If anything, they will improve.
