Hello all, after four years of college I finally have the money to upgrade to a decent headphone, so I guess it's my turn to join in on the flame-fest between these three headphones. I've read through the two other megathreads (hd600 vs. cd3000, hd650 vs. hd600) so I have a good idea of the sonic differences, but still have a few questions.

1. My current amp is a stock meta42 and the source the infamous chaintech card. I have NO plans to upgrade this in the near future simply because I won't have spare cash for a long time. Is this "good enough" to drive the HD600/650?

2. I am coming from Grado SR125's. I absolutly love the sound, but I just can't stand wearing them anymore
They physically fatigue my ears, and they just won't stay on when I'm listening in bed.

3. Which of these will be less brutal on poorly recorded music? A lot of my collection is bootlegs, and something too revealing might not be the best idea with this source.

4. Very few people talk about how the HD600 proforms in gaming/movies, while I see some love for the CD3000 here. Is this just because of the type of user who gravitates to the two, or is there something about the HD600's that make it less ideal for these two sources?

5. Will either of these phones not stay on if your lying down?

6. Recently I've been doing 6 hour plus listening sessions while coding, and the grado's get a bit fatiguing after a while since they're so upfront. How much do the sony's backdown here?

Thanks in advance! I know in the end most people say audition the two and then decide, but that really isn't an option here
Just trying to make the right decision and hopefully ignorance is bliss

I would say with no plans to upgrade the source and amp, I would go for the HD600 / HD595s. The HD600s will be the more forgiving / less forward of the two, with the 650s being the most detailed (IMO) and most revealing.
Between 595 and 600, pick 600s if you prefer a slight more laid back approach, the 595s if you prefer a more forward presentation.

I can only tell you about the HD 600 because it is what I own. They can be listened to lying down, yes. They are easy to listen to for long periods of time because of the comfort as well as the rolloff at the high end- one does not become fatigued from hearing the sound as if it is right in your face.

I can't compare it to anything else, I can just tell you that I love my HD600s.

Well, looks like the (small) masses have spoken. Just wondering, why 600 over 650? Seems like most people in the team Grado camp prefer the latter.
