Even more bass than a 650, measured? I wonder if there was some disparity in the way they measured them. I know graphs are only graphs, but it's still very curious.

That's pretty wierd; by the graph the K601 just seems like the K701 at a lower volume...

If that's the case, then there's NO way i'm EVER getting the 701's =D

Yeah I thought they had more treble during the SF meet.

can you post a comparison to an HD580?

I think some of the treble roll off thats graphically illustrated on many of their plots may be an artifact of their measurement system.... hence many bright airy sounding cans graphically look rolled off above 10k. Then again theres not much musical information above 10k.... at least not too many fundamental notes.

Just goes to show that microphones and eardrums/brains do not interpret sound the same way.

They advertise the 601 as 'biwired' just as they do the 701, indicating it is a 4 conductor cable. Isn't it actually the same cable? Differences between the 701 and the 601, purely from what they say on their website is that the 701 has the flat voice coil that the 601 does not, and the 701 as specially shaped ear pads whereas the 601 has standard circular ones.

601 is 3 wires. I know, I recabled mine.

this would make balancing a stock 601 cable impossible.
balancing a 601 means full recable as the only option.

one white wire, that is the return wire. it goes to the return terminal of the headband that goes to the return on the other side. then a wire is taken for the head band terminal into the main side.

Very interesting Myo. I just had another look at the AKG website and indeed you are right, the 601 cable is only a 3 conductor cable. However the other differences, regarding the voice coil and shape of the ear pads still stand. Considering that, it's strange how similar the two plots actually are.

Well I'm sure your ears agree that the K701 has significantly more output between 4k and 10k as shown on the graph. I'm sure they'll have comments about these new graphs, however they don't necessarily disagree with the general concensus so far. I did find moments in recordings where I actually thought that my K701 showed up more bass than my 650's did, so who knows?
