AiOteons last post on Prozac really scared me. So much that I couldn't read all of it. Why? Because I have been on Prozac for the past few months. There were occasional headaches at first, but now there aren't any.

The thing that disturbs me most is I seem more depressed now , though at first there was a notible improvement after 4 weeks. Things got better.(Note: To anyone who goes on Prozac, you need to wait up to 12 weeks for it to reach an optimal blood syrum level. Prozac also has a long half-life, meaning if you miss a day it should not be fatal. DON"T KILL ME IF I AM WRONG)

Oh well....I don't think it is losing its effectiveness . I had one REALLY REALLY bad day, where I did the unthinkable and took an extra pill. It worked immediantly and I felt very care free. (NOTE: I am not addicted to it, I forget to take it some days)

Anyway...thanks for the free therapy session.

Now offense Ai0tron....but I think your post did more harm than good...because it just scares people like me. However, I regret the pain you experienced.

PS: My psyc told me he has to spend $40,000 dollars A YEAR on malpractice insurance.

That must be why they charge so much.

Dude,

If you're gonna kill yourself, be sure not to cause a traffic jam.

Thanks

Ha....I used the word depression lightly. But I actually am on it for anxiety (aka: worry).

I was not doing well in school. They found out that I get overly anxious during tests.

So no...I probably won't commit suicide. Actually, I once had to talk out of person suicide.

Actually, I agree with Joe. Aerobic exercise pumps enough endorphins into your system to give you a high. I took up karate and ju-jutsu two and a half years ago and I've been as happy as a pig in **** ever since. Take some aerobic classes. It's a lot of fun to watch the girls exercise and you get to mingle with them afterwards. You'll be able to tell them how poorly you're doing in school and they'll tell you how stupid and shallow they are and you'll discover that you have a lot in common.

Exercise can certainly help! It's generally less expensive than medication use and also has a lot of additional side benefits.

BUT: for folks that have serious anxiety or depression, sometimes no amount of exercise can allow you to function normally.

Prozac (and all the other SSRIs, anxiolytics, antidepressants, etc.) are NOT magic bullets. They are tools that can be used in the management of disease. Like any other tools, they must be used appropriately. If not used properly, bad things can happen.

So, PLEASE do no take additional doses of your medication just because. Make sure that you talk with your doctor about what's happening with you if you aren't feeling good.

You have nothing to worry about. Really. If it's working for you, stay with it.

A couple of things. First, the internet is not the place to get medical advice. Some of it may be good, but it can be very difficult to sort it out from the crap. Second, If you're taking neuroactive medication, you should be seeing a psychiatrist who has expertise in neuropharmacology. Not all do. Finding one can be frustrating, as many doctors are not willing to admit when they are out of their area of expertise. It's worth the effort to find someone who really knows what they're doing, however. Third, with Prozac, if you miss a day, just stay on your regular dose, unless your doctor directs otherwise. Don't take extra pills without telling your doctor. Prozac is pretty safe in that regard, but there are other medications that aren't.
