I got my pay check Friday, had Saturday off. I drove to Seattle, went to Hawthorne Stereo (Awesome place for some NICE Home Stereo equipment!). I demo'ed the SR60's, SR80's, SR125's, SR225's & SR325's with the Ultrasone S-Logic CD.

I didn't like the sound of the Comfies on the SR60's, but they did feel nice. Also the SR60's with the Comfies had a weird sound stage. It was like I was listening to two separate veiled/blanketed speakers, hardly any imaging. Like listening to the real world with a blanket over your head...there is sound, its a bit muffled/muddy and I can't tell exactly where the sound is coming from.

The SR80's were a totally different sound...much more detailed, bright and loads more sound stage. The SR125's & SR225's were 99.9% the same sounding to the SR80's. But the SR325's had a much better bass response then all the others.

On the other hand the SR60's with Bowls were just about the same as the SR80's. Sound brightness, detail & sound stage were right there, but not quite as much as the SR80's.

Anywho...I got the SR80's. I was temped to just get the SR60's with extra Bowl pads, and quarter mod the Comfies, but I liked the SR80's sound stage.

Thanks for your impressions of the Grados. Where I live there isn't a Grado shop around that I'm aware of to test Grados out. I can't wait to have my very own Grado soon. Enjoy your new cans

Congratulations with a nice pair of headphones!
The SR80 are good bang for the bucks, and an excellent way to get a taste of the Grado sound.

Congrats. Thanks for the short review.

I'm a fairly new Grado owner. I didn't listen to any of them but rather made my choice based on reviews and comments. I spent almost a year considering which one to get...I ended up with the 325i.

Yes, so I also just got my 1st Grados (from the wife for father's day). Also picked the SR-80s for her to buy for me

Liking them a whole lot.

Moved from Senn PX-100s (& Bose QC's my employer paid for for travel). Not to get into the Bose vs audiophile thing, but the Bose are sure tough to listen to after the Grados w/SOHA (e.g. how the music is supposed to sound).
Guess I'll still use the QCs on plane flights

Enjoy.

welcome to the club.... the SR80 is one of my favs too. I use my SR60 with bowls. I don't like the comfy pads either.

Sweet, you started off just like me!

But I think the SR80 is the only Grado I'll get; too much airiness in general for me.

Ah well, best that I think that for my poor wallet.
