I am no longer a source virgin: The Meridian G07 has landed...

Received my G07 today, thank god its already burnt in, opened it up, plugged it in...sounds wonderful, smooth, incredibly extended with tons of air and separation between instruments, what a wonderful sound, great bass and dynamics, the HR-2 and raptor are simply just getting out of the way and letting all its magic grab a hold of me.

Must listen first, finish up raptor review, and leave impressions later...

Great to hear you're enjoying the new source! Ironically this is the most informative review/impressions post I read on a G07 to date. There is NO info out there on this player! I almost bought one myself but decided not to chance it.

Anyway, I'm glad to hear you did and are happy with your choice! Keep the impressions flowing!

I know, there is nothing on this cdp, give me 2 weeks and ill have something more informative..

i can definitely hear the 508.24 lineage, from the analog outs its very close, but the G07 has a slightly smoother sound up top from what i remember, and the top end seems more opened up, vs. the meridian 508.24 which to my ears has almost a warm dark character.

Overall, im very impressed, at first i really wanted the 508.24, but it appears that im essentially getting something that's a little more refined, smoother, and more opened up top, but the bass is still right on, and everyone knows how good meridians are with the mids.

What other Meridians did you hear? Just the 508.24 or have you heard the 507 as well?

Ive heard the 507, 588, and the G08 as well...havent heard a 506.24 though, but there was a 507.24 on audiogon that i was seriously considering though

The 507 is based more off of the 506 lineage. The 508's are generally smoother, especially on the upper end, and slightly warmer than the 506 and 507's. Here's a link comparing the 507 to the 588, which is still applicable to your question because the 588 is based off the 508.24 lineage

Extension is incredible...highs go real high up but they have a nice sweet sound to it, chimes are a real pleasure to listen to. Low extension is real good, rs-1's are pounding out some subwoofer type bass, im scared what the 650 is going to do.

I need to A/B this with either bhd812's or Ray's G08, i want to see what the upsampling will do to the extension, i think detail and resolution is a given, but i have a bet that extension through the analog outs might be pretty similar, im just not sure how higher or lower it could feasibly extend than what im hearing now! Would also love to A/B with a 507, i heard the 588 is more organic sounding than G07, someone like tuberoller needs to chime in and just rank all the meridians where they stand!
