I've heard many great things about the etymotic er-4p's but i've also heard some bad things, i.e the soundstage.

does anyone have any suggestions?

what are you looking for in an IEM?

great sound quality with accurate sound yet also exciting to listen to. i listen to just about every genre.

it would be nice to have decent soundstage, but i realize most IEMs don't offer much of this.

Get an RE0 and a decent amp.

Then defoam the RE0s. Buy a pack of small or medium shure olives and a pack of comply t400s and decore the olives and the complys. Insert the comply cores into the olives. What you now have: a great pair of earphones with an amp (which you'll need to get the most out of any IEM in this class) with without foam (to improve soundstage), and tips that will best isolate you from your surroundings while being comfortable.

A "decent" amp may cost more than $200

I've been considering the tf10 as well but am hesitant about the 170 price tag of the vi from amazon's resellers. The same vi's are listed as 150 on ebay but I don't know how UE validates the warranty.. Do you need the receipt from an authorized seller or w/e? Hearing all these complaints about the cables being fragile on these things...

I believe a receipt from an authorized seller is needed to claim warranty.
However, if you are worried about the cable issue, don't be. Even TF10's cable is not as good as westone 3's, it is better than se530's, IMO. What is more, TF10's cable is replaceable. You can get a replacement cable from UE's official web for only $19.99.

You would benefit from it; depending on how much money you're willing to spend and how well trained your ears are it may or may not be worth it.
