I don't have an amp yet, so instead of discussing he way the CD3000 sound, I'll talk about the visual aspects. And, well, these things are gargantuan.
When LTUCCI said he wanted to use his Grado225s portably, I didn't understand why. Their thick cable and above average size make them too bulky to lug around. Then I realized he had just finished using CD3000. Compared to CD3000, a 7.2 surround system seems portable.
Before I begin, I would like to apologize for the amateur photography.
Here we see Sony.com's CD3000 picture. They look like average cans. From here, you can't tell that the pads have the same diameter as a CD.
Here are my CD3000 on the table. The table is approximately 3.5x5'. The chair is about 2.5 feet away from the headphones.
Here they are munching on my D25S. Because the D25S is diagonal in this shot, it doesn't show how big they are. Don't worry, the money shot is saved for last.
Counterclockwise from left: D66, SR225, CD3000, ER6. The CDs are placed to convey proportion. Notice how small the one on the right looks compared to the one on the left.
Here they are dwarfing an XBox controller.
Here they are dwarfing a 2 liter soda bottle.
Here they are on an XBox.
Comparison w/ruler. That's a 12" ruler.
The money shot. 2/3 of an XBox.
And there you have it. Easily the largest headphones I've ever owned, quite possibly the largest headphones I will ever own. Maybe it's because I'm not used to Hi-Fi headphones that the size impresses me so much. If it is, the xbox pics gives us at least 1 more thing to "lol" at.
