Hi folks: I’ve recently acquired a 780d V1 upgraded with the Mind2 to supplement my 430had (was using internal DAC prior).

I am still using the HD800s and Grado PS1000e I started out with and appreciate the somewhat “larger” sound of the 780d but things are starting to sound a little too bright to my ears (actually painfully bright and thin/analytical) and I’m unable to listen much as a result: not what you want.

I’m willing to change any aspect of my system: any pointers? Perhaps a warmer fuller headphone? The Empyrean or LCD4z? Perhaps a warmer amp or different DAC?

Suggestions welcome. I’m based in SoCal (LA) and need to start attending local events, too, in order to increase my exposure to different gear.

You would probably like the 4Z, it is warm but still highly resolving. Go check out The Source in Torrance, they have nearly all high end headphones for demo.
