Nah. No twin of mine would sell these, evil or not. The headphone is either the HP-2 or the HP-3, since there are no phase switches. I have no idea if there's any way to tell the difference. HP-2 would be worth more than HP-3. The amp's face plate looks like the HPA-1, but I believe the HPA-2 had an identical face plate, so there's no way to tell which it is. For that matter, I have no idea if there's any difference between the two amps in any event. I don't see the AC adapter, which was a $125 option on the original amp.

"Sold as is" always make me worry that there may be something wrong with it. If it works then it would be a good deal if people don't go crazy on bids.

It's been shown that there's almost nothing inside a Grado amp, so there's nothing to go wrong

The old amps (HPA-1, HPA-2) are significantly different than the RA-1. Kind of like the difference between the HP-1000 and RS-1.

There's no visual way to tell the difference between the HP-2 and HP-3 unless the guy has the box, which it doesn't seem he does. If it'll make you feel better, I believe many more HP-2s were produced than HP-3s, so probability favors the buyer here.

I pushed the price up a bit.
Jeez, $250 isn't enough to get this?

We should have a lottery seeing how high it goes.
5 days is a long time.
I'll bet it reaches $1000.

Yeah, that's pretty scary...

"They are sold AS IS, but I believe both the amp and the headphones work fine."

Sounds like the seller doesn't even know for sure if they work at all. Apparently he couldn't find the time to plug it in to a cdp and see if they really do work.

If I had the cash, I'd bite, since the amp shouldn't be to hard to repair (if it's dead), and probably worth $$$ on the used market - and probably sounds really good.

I have the highest bid now... was hoping this would go smooth until HD-5000 blew the whistle... sheesh....

I'm most interested in the amp if anyone is looking for just the phones...

FYI, it's not nice to outbid a fellow HeadFier, in case anyone was considering sniping McGino...
