Technics... Tek-niks, or Tek-neeks, or other? My neighbor and I pronounce it Tek-niks, my dad pronounces it Tek-neeks... How he gets tek-neeks out of Technics I have no clue, but he does somehow...

being a japanese brand... just look at the katakana spelling of the word to get the pronounciation. the romanized version of that is tekunikusu.

Accordint to the japanese pronunciation, it does appears to be closer to tek(u)-neek(u)s(u). But probably in english it's supposed be tek-niks. (the (u) can usually be left out in the pronunciation I think, or only pronounced slightly)

So the correct Japanese-ized pronounciation would be Tek-neeks then. It appears older people pronounce it correctly, though us younger people who have never heard it pronounced correctly pronounce it Tek-niks... Too bad I don't know how old PinkFloyd is... BTW, I'm 15 and my neighbor just turned 16.

It does also kind of depend on your knowledge of japanese katakana and pronunciation.

I think it's traditionally been tek-neeks, but tek-niks seems to be making in-roads. I prefer the former, not just because I'm used to it, but because tek-nics sounds like it refers to people who are into tech.

This side of the pond its tekniks (and also on this side of 40!). Always has been. always will be.

Just as the golf ball is Tite list and not Tit liest. One that baffles me is Kansas and Arkensaaaw - why isn't Arkansas pronounced Ar Kansas? Then again why is Kansas not Kansaaaw?
