Hi guys,
I bought the ER-6i about 1.3 years ago, it's amazing but the cord is complete crap. It's thin and tangles easily.

Due to the recent price change of the 4ps, im going to upgrade. But are is the 4p cord an upgrade from the 6i cord? is it crap?

thanks

I don't have ER6 so I don't know how the cord compares, but I have ER4 and I think the cord sturdiness is good, not prone to breaking at all.

Cable noise is a big issue with these earphones though, if you don't use the clip or loop them over your ears.

I agree, the ER6 series cord is very thin and looks like crap.I baby mine so they have lasted for many months. The ER4P cable is much better looking but if you don't treat it nice it won't be too difficult to destroy.

ER4P cable not crap.

I'm with Dane on this one. I no longer own my ER4P's, but I used them once in awhile mowing the lawn without worry. I mean, I felt confident that, if they got violently yanked out of my ears, they'd be okay. In other words, it's a decent cable.

The ety er4 cord is very durable.

use my Ety 4p constantly---gardening, digging, shoveling, mowing plus working on wooden boats they're subjected to sawdust, scraping, etc etc. Don't know what you're lookig for, but for over five years, these things continue to wear like iron.

I'm going to assume he's talking about the new braided kind, and it is very durable indeed. One time I jumped from a wall with them in my ears, and unbeknown to me, the cord was under my crouched knees, so when I sprung to jump, they were yanked viciously from my ears, and hit the ground with a small clatter.

No damage, and they sounded the exact same as when I first got them. So you have nothing to worry about.

I have cut into the Er4 old braided style cable. It is very good quality.

They use (4?) strands of silver wire per channel- perhaps silver plated copper.

And I believe they even shielded it- which adds GREATLY to how durable it is. The metal shielding will make it very difficult to "tear" apart- even without it would be hard.

The outer black coating has never worn off and cracked in any way and I don't foresee it doing so in the near future. Also it is very flexible. It is only mircophonic due to the design of how the IEMs are worn.

Keep in mind this is for the braided- twisted rather- style and the others are not like this.

Isn't braided a new style, not old?

good question.

I'm not sure what the new cables look like, but I was under the impression that etymotic doesn't do the red-blue any more, just black. Meaning my cable is somewhat older. And I know my phones are at least 3 years old- maybe older.

This is the old design, non-braided

The newer one

And later on, additionally to cable, red/blue barrels were replaced with black, along with different Y join cylinder and plug.
