on the iPod Shuffle manual it says one can skip from one playlist to another by pressing the play button three times quickly. however, even when i load the Shuffle with my Playlists from the computer in iTunes, the Shuffle refuses to skip to the next playlist when i press play three times fast; it just retuens to the first song every time. what am i doing wrong? thanks in advance...

i'm pretty sure that because of the fact that there is no screen on the shuffle, it only has one playlist, and that's essentially everything you put on it from your computer. otherwise, how are you supposed to know what playlist you're on?

but why would the manual suggest otherwise?

i would know what playlist i'm on because all my albums are in their own playlists. i'm an album listener...

Bong,
I don't see what you are referring to in the iPod Shuffle "Users Guide." On page 9 it says, "Using iTunes, you can browse, play, and manage your music on your computer. You can organize music into lists of songs, called playlists. You can set iTunes to transfer music from one of these playlists to iPod Shuffle." I believe that you can have only one playlist on the shuffle. You can subsequently decide whether to play that playlist in the order that you have organized it in iTunes, or in random order. [...no multiple playlists] Create and organize an iPod Shuffle playlist in iTunes, organize that playlist by album, than put the shuffle in the "in order" position with the switch on the back. I believe that this will accomplish what you want...

Please forgive, but if the above is true, why would you own a device explicitly designed to play music randomly? I've owned six or seven DAPs, all of which have a shuffle play feature. Never used it once - not once, on any of them. I too am an 'album listener' and prefer to control my listening experience. That's why when the Shuffle came out I hadn't the slightest of interest (in fact had a hard time understanding the possible market for such a thing, but that's just me projecting my preferences to the outside world).

its on page 15, "iPod Shuffle Controls." the third line says:
Go to the beginning of playlist - Press the Play/Pause button three times quickly (within one second).

unless i'm interpreting this sentence wrong and like Mr.Pants says, essentially the Shuffle works as one playlist itself, that's why it keeps returning to the first song...

but if it does skip from playlist to playlist i've loaded into the Shuffle from my iTunes playlists, that'll be great.

You are not limited to playing music randomly with the iPod Shuffle as I have explained above...

oh no... not this conversation again...

anyway, yes, i'm aware of the arguments, but i have loaded the Shuffle with 10 albums IN ORDER, and have listened to them this whole weekend IN ORDER. my original question was that in my iTunes on the comp, each album set up as their own playlist, and i just drag each album playlist into the Shuffle, so essentially i have 10 playlists loaded into the shuffle. so i was wondering if i could listen to playlist album #1 on the shuffle, and skip playlist album #2 and go directly to playlist album #3 by pressing the play button three times fast...

but apparantly not.

my other main reason for ordering the Shuffle is for weekend when i don't want to lug the regular iPod around. and to think the regular iPod seems big and heavy these days...

Agreed, iPod is a 'lug' when compared to the many current itsy alternatives. Enjoy your Shuffle! Right now my light-side alternative is the Rio Carbon and it's pretty slick too. It'll be my main player while iPod goes back (a second time) to get the dang clickwheel button fixed.
