I think you'd have to cut it off.

OP: Lightly twist one of the plastic squares with the letters "L" or "R" where it attaches to the headband, you'll hear a little snap when it separates from the glue, then just pull it out. As long as you don't need to do this often, you don't need to glue it back, just push it back in and it'll stay.
