Hi,

as I wrote somewhere else, I'm considering Denon D2000s, strictly used due to budget limitation.
I've read 'round here that a "mk II" of these cans has been issued, with a different (and upgraded) cable, which should be now very similar to D5000's one, if I don't go wrong (please tell me if I do).

Now, how can I recognize these mk II without having a D5000 or a D2000 mk I to compare with ? Is there any particular, any sign, or even just a date of production, a serial number to search for ?

thanks, ciao

Does anyone have information regarding how to tell if you have the "new" Denon D2000 or if they have an upgraded cable?

If you have budget considerations then take advantage of the fact that used D2000 will have the old cable and bargain the price down because of that. Use it to your advantage.

I don't believe the cable makes any difference (certainly not enough difference to worry about) with the D2000. I'm not a cable believer. The main reason to choose to go with a different cable would be for convenience. The stock cable is stiff, long, and unwieldy. Other than that, I don't care if my D2000 have the old or the new cable. An upgraded cable does not magically fix the faults and specific frequency dropout that affect (afflict) the D2000. I've listened to a modded D2000 with an aftermarket cable. It had the exact same frequency dropouts as my stock D2000.

Is there any evidence that, in fact, Denon HAS changed the D2000 cable over to the cable that is used in the D5000?

Perhaps those who got the "stiff" older cable received old stock, which is what I want to avoid.

That may be the case. I got a good deal on them and don't think I would pay full retail for the same HP, different cable, especially stock... I hadn't even heard that they were doing this, if in fact they are.

I don't think they released an MKII, and they certainly didn't change the cable. The only reason the D2Ks are $200 less than the D5Ks is cable and cups, if the cable was improved the price would've gone up.

Out of all the D2000s we've handled (a lot) we've yet to see one with an upgraded cable.

Someone who thinks they have an upgraded stock D2000 cable could take one for the team and cut the cable open and post pictures so that we'd know. That would confirm it it is the old stock D2000 cable or an upgraded cable like the D5000.
