edit: in response to your post before mine, unless you right now use EQs on your ipod i doubt rockbox will fix your distorted bass problem, maybe an amp is the way to go afterall

Well, I can only use the presets on my ipod ... it's ok but you can't finetune. My guess is also that an amp will fix this problem.

You may want to try a cmoy portable amp. They work great ND are very economical. Here is a link to where I bought mine and you can find them all over ebay.

Using them on something better than an iPod Classic would be a good start. A Cowon D2, for example. Lacking that, use a headphone amp that uses the base connection on the iPod instead of the substandard headphone output.

True, I came to the conclusion Ipod looks fine but the sound could be much better!
