I see that there is a cross-fader under preferences but how do I do it for just a specific albums?

If specific songs have long gaps at the end of them, you can just go into a waveform editor and chop the silence out.

Id like for the songs of a particular to blend into one another, without any pause and/or stopping sound in between them.
Is there a way to do this within itunes?

You'll have to do it the opposite way.  If you know you have certain albums that are meant to have songs that flow into each other, then you'll have to right click the songs in that album, then press get info, option, then click the 'part of gapless album' box.  Doing so will over-ride the crossfade that iTunes will put on all the songs in a library.

Either doing that or changing the stop time under the "options" section will do the trick if you have handful of songs.

You have to use an encoder that stores gapless data in the headers, like LAME, or iTunes AAC or ALAC. When you import them into iTunes, it reads that data, and then you should get gapless playback.
