How should I pack headphones for shipping?

manufacturer's usually like them packed inside their original box. then wrap lightly in bubble wrap. put inside a box. put this box inside another box that's at least twice as big, and fill with peanut foam. you may want to buble wrap the box before inserting into the peanut foam box.

then let's hope that they return it in the same box.

I think that's a LITTLE overkill for packing. With something a light a the 580s, if you put them in their original box and then place that in a large box with peanuts, you'll be fine. That's the way major buisness ship thousands of items every day, so you should be fine doing it that way as well.

I agree, unless you're shipping free hp-1000s to me(which you should be in the process of doing, right?) A standard double box approach works fine. Ie: original box, peanuts/bubbles, and another box.

I don't mean to presume, but are you sure the intermittent sound in your 580s isn't simply a loose connector? The 580s are notorious for working loose when rubbed against a coat collar, etc. If you haven't already done so, you might want to try disconnecting and reseating the connector on the troublesome side.

Again, excuse me if this seems presumptuous, but it works for me.

No no no no no no.... I have the Jubilee version which was made in 1995 before they fixed the problem. Right now, it's gotten to the point that I've had to snip portions of the tube of a Q-tip and stick in there to keep pressure on the connection. If I don't keep any pressure on the connector, I no longer get sound. Also, I've noticed that the balance is slightly off to the left, I've only noticed that it's the headphones fault because I used my Grado's and Sony's to test my amp and I noticed that the with the Senns some of the vocalists would be off center (before I just thought it was my ears causing the off balance). Ok, I'll have to go back home to Virginia to get the box, thank goodness I made a specific point to save the box.
