Just curious what an entry level Omega II rig would cost me roughly.

Used is obviously what I am looking at. I am content with my Sr-Lambda rig but would sell it in a heartbeat to help fund the Omega II.

About $2000-2500 I would guess.
Since the system can be had new for about $2700-2800 (from Japan). I am talking about the SR-007 and SRM-007tII.

More if its a local version with warranty and correct voltage settings.

By the way, you find a SR-007 / SRM-717 system on ebay.
Currently at $1525, with 3 days to go...

The system on ebay is very nice. I was looking at it myself. I am not about to drop 2 grand for any pair of headphones system however.

the general concensus for the folks that have the sr-007s is that the stax amps can't really drive the sr-007s to their true potential. the srm-717, srm-t1, and srm-007t/tii all seem to be pretty good, but leave too much on the table. and that group will cost you at least $2k.

the amps that really seem to drive the sr-007s are the singlepower es-1 (~$4k), the headamp kgss ($1.5k) and the headamp kgbh (discontinued). mcalister (~$1k) and woo audio (~$1k) also make 'stat amps, but you don't hear as much about them.

bottom line, expect at least $2k for a system, and $3k-$6k if you've got the bucks and your ears demand it.

lol ok that leaves me a bit short. I am trading my mountain bike for some audio equipment so we will see. I have around $1500 now and at best will barely manage $2100 at best. getting there.

blue hawaii is $$$$$$$$ I assume?

yeah, the original blue hawaii is discontinued (and hard to find used) and i'm sure you've seen the posts about the upcoming 10 (and only 10) blue hawaii se that are already spoken for. i think the kgbh se is in the $4.5k range (someone on the list would know for sure).

With $1500 you will get a bit short.
But a used SR-007 and an SRD-7 Pro or mk2 should be within reach. It might end up sounding pretty good out of the Parasound V.1 Pre-amp/amp. Then save up for a direct drive amplifier.

HeadAmp made Blue Hawaii's in the past, and charged $2500 for them. There are a Blue Hawaii Special Edition under ways, but all 10 are sold. At a price of $4500.

You might get a hold of a used one though. Or someone to build one for you.

Ok so I need to get a job for that one then. Still a student for another semester. Ah well, patience and already having a great setup will help see me through. I am not going to half-ass this next step.

I fully understand you.
Just wanted to point out the possibility, since I did not know how much you wanted the SR-007. But waiting, and buy a complete system at once makes sense. If you can manage the wait that is.

A used set of OIIs and a matching Stax amp (whether the 007 or the 717/727) should go for around $2200. Anything less is a pretty good bargain. Of course, you'll likely want to upgrade the weak Stax amp soon, and that'll be at least $1200 more (for maybe a used KGSS). Probably better to wait until everybody dumps their OIIs when the next iteration becomes widely available and everybody upgrades. Get a discounted OII without having to get a mediocre Stax amp, then get a better amp directly.
