How much sound improvement will I get from going from a DEJ1000 to a SlimX550?

listen if you want to buy the imp550 and youre in america go here:
http://iriveramerica.com/estore.asp

its only $180, while the imp400 is $200, strange. whats so special about the imp400, but the imp400 red does attract me more than any other player.

i think if you buy it from teamdigital, they might as well send you the non-english version.

i think i found out the reaso for the cheapr imp550 price:
imp350 upgrade to imp550
imp400 upgrade to imp500
the number pattern makes sense also, so the imp500 would be more expensive than the imp550

also, no car kit in the imp-550. look at the 350 w/ car kit on iriver's site-- $179.99.

thats pretty steep for a stupid cassette and cigarette adapter that costs about $10 total to produce.

JUST KIDDING: iriver's description of the 550 INCLUDES car kit... this is really a stumper. ugh, i'm so tempted to return my 400 to amazon now...

Good day, just receive the IMP-550...
biggrin.gif

First impression from the box... it's SO DAMN small!!!! really... i can't believe it's so small... u need to hold it to believe it...

Also 1 good news and 1 bad news...

Bad news first, the line out isn't a true line out... u still can adjust the volume of the line out...

Good news is.... The OPTICAL OUT supports mp3 files as well!!!!!!!!! This is awesome.... yes, mp3s and CDs just try on my minidisk player....

Ok, the unit doesn't come with a car kit... The package only contains IMP-550, remote control, earphone, leather case, adapter, headphone extension, two 1450mAh gumstick batteries, external AA battery housing, manual and warranty card.

Oh ya, another thing is the time to load a full mp3 CD... the time need to load until play is less than 10 seconds... i'm not sure whether this is good 'cos i don't have any previous model... I haven't try with CDRW yet, just CDR from my collection...

As far as the sound concern, it's like my laptop playing mp3... hehe... maybe i'm not that good in listening....
wink.gif
but that's the quality i look for... don't take my word on it... audit it in the shop if u can... FYI, i'm not using the original earphone, i'm using KSC-55 and PortaPro... I'll try the line out with Amp+HD600 later...

As for the features, i don't think i can finish listing all out... all i can say is i'm amazed by the huge list of features that come with this small unit... One thing to remind is that u can't operate the player without the remote, of course i think most of u aware that there isn't any button on the player!!! Anyway, the remote is awesome... The most important thing is the ability to display chinese characters.....
biggrin.gif

Ok, that's all for now... time to play with my new "toy"...

p/s: my unit is japanese unit, the firmware is 1.00j...

Hi, my unit is black one.... i was told that the silver one is backordered until july, so i just go with black one even though i want the silver one...
wink.gif

That's y i only received the player today, if not, i would have played with it last week...

About the line out, usually line out is meant to bypass the internal headphone amp and use with external amp, that's y the true line out should not be able to adjust the volume level...

i am very impressed by the specfications of the imp-550. but I like the design of the imp-400 much more (the red one, of course). I could look at it for hours.

But the imp-550 is definitely a good choice. please tell us your experience with batterylife after you played with it for a few days!

[so]hai®,

A question,

About the remote headphone jack socket (if that's what it's called)
I've seen pics of the remote and it looks like you cannot put a 3.5mm headphone jack into it. But instead there is an extension cord which you plug into the remote and in that cord you plug your headphones.
(still following me?

)

Is this true or can you plug the headphone jack straight into the remote. I'm talking about a 3,5mm jack . Th ones used for most portable headphones.

Remember, this 550 isn't a replacement for the 400 or the successor model. That's the 500. The 550 like a 400/500 "lite".(Less skip etc.).

The 550 was always going to be the same or lower than the 400. (See other threads on this.)

Hmmm. A previous thread had a comment from iRiver that only the black would be available in N.A., so I guess our choice here is limited.

this is iriver's answer to my question "is the slim550 better than the slim400 and y is the slim550 179.99 and the slim400 199.99".
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hello,

Yes, the 550 is better in many ways. As technology grows, costs decline, and the parts used inside the 550 were available at a lower cost than the parts of the 400 when it was created, thus the lower price. We will be keeping the SlimX 400 at the eStore, as many customers still prefer the style over the size advantage of the 550.

Thank you,

Hi Lisa, the answer is yes and no... u still can plug in "certain" headphone jack... i managed to plug in the koss KSC-55 and PortaPro with "correct" angle... HD600 with no problem... i think u can plug in most of the "straight" headphone jack and some right-angled jack... sorry i'm not very good in english...
biggrin.gif

Anyway, i attached the pics of the remote with PortaPro...
