How much of a tip do you leave the pizza man.

Wow, you guys tip big. I give him a buck. Why not more? It's an easy job. It's not like he is carrying around plates that might spill or refilling my drink. He's just carrying a couple of boxes in his car and then up to my door. I'm pretty sure they make over minimum wage and they might even be paid for their mileage, so I don't think much of a tip is necessary. $1 seems fine, unless you are ordering an inordinate amount of pizza.

Word on the street is they deliver pizzas to the big-tipper's house first, thus giving them the warmest pizza.

I'm pretty sure they pay for their own gas. Tip them well.

At least $5.00.

usually $3 to $5, depending on the bill. i used to be a delivery boy (my first job) but it wasn't for pizzas. i worked for a local pharmacy and delivered drugs to the elderly. trust me, most of the time i didn't get good tips, and the pay was way below minimum wage. even if delivery people get paid these days, it's usually minimum wage, and after taxes and such, they don't get much at all, so tip well. this also goes for waitrons/servers. if we go out to eat, we always tip at least 15%, if not 20% most of the time.

cheers.

For one how many pizzas?

It's like tipping FedEx or UPS. Though, maybe if I started tipping them, they would quit breaking everything I order.

If my pizza is too cold, I will be getting a free one next time, or I will be ordering from somewhere else.

I tip my UPS guy too....he comes to pickup at least once a week so I make sure I give him $75-100 at holiday time.

And the Dominos guy (and Chinese, Tex-Mex and Diner delivery guys) get $3-4 per visit.

That's a dumb way to look at it. UPS and FedEx guys are paid well and get a lot of benefits. Pizza guys use their own car, have no benefits, pay for their own gas and get minimum wage.

Tip them as you would a waiter.

We order pizza all the time at college, the drives are so short, and we even have to come downstairs to get our pizza (they won't go up in an apartment building or dorm). I usually leave $1 plus whatever the change was from the pizza. Sometimes $2 + the change if there's very little change or for it was a really good delivery or something.

Actually, you're wrong, at least about the mileage, and IIRC, they make better than minimum wage as well.

And, why would they have benefits or not use their own cars? Like I said, it's an easy job. Any idiot who can drive a car decently can deliver a pizza. Actually, it would probably make more sense to tip UPS/FedEx.
