Or any cable upgrade, for that matter. I'm curious and feeling upgradeitus again. Anyone made the upgrade on their 580's? Any major improvement? Would it be better to save the $185.00 - $235.00, sell the 580's and upgrade to the 650 with stock cables???

Yes, I suppose I should've mentioned that (however, my sig contains all my equimpment, but I digress

). At any rate, my rig is pretty simple - 5G ipod, lined-out to a RSA Hornet "M".

I doubt the replacement will inrease SQ by much but could make sound slightly different. If portability is a big issue to you, you have no choise, the almost last thing you could do is do the cable replacement. If not, you could sell the Hornet and buy a better headamp then will give you a lot more change.

I A/B'd different 2 differrent Cardas cables with the HD580 and 650 OEM cables on my 580 and didnt find them to make a significant enough difference to justify the price. IMHO the 580 has a kind of sluggish, distant sound that (to a certain extent) is an acoustic property of the driver.

IMHO the best HD580 upgrade for the $$$ is the 650 OEM cable and 600 grilles, while socket modding the foam sheet brings out the upper mids.

**edit**
FWIW... I demo'd all the cables on what I would consider a very high end headphone source/amp.
