Guitar Aqusition Syndrome?
I practice between 2 and 4 hours just about every day, and a lot more on the weekends. I know a heck of a lot more than I did when I first picked it up, but I haven't really started to study any complete songs yet.
Do I really play the violin? Well there was a time when my own mother wouldn't agree with that. And once my brother hid my violin in a closet on a high shelf so I wouldn't be able to ... play.
But yes, I suppose one could say that I play the violin ....
Oh, and I beat on a djembe, but who knows what the hell I'm really doing.
I play percussion, my favorite is marimba. I wouldn't say that I play drums, in the sense that I am terrible at drumset. Concert drums or multi percussion I'm not so bad at though. I've been playing for 7 years, going to major in percussion performance this fall.
I started playing guitar when I was 9 yrs. old; been playing off and on for 29 yrs. Play some piano. I have a 1980 Les Paul Custom (grey and black sunburst), Fender Reverb amp, and an acoustic Fender.
I started playing guitar in about '58 or 9. My first real Guitar was a Harmony Meteor. It was fun, but then I realized that both Chet Atkins and George Harrison played Gretsch Country Gentlemen.(I knew that!
)so I just hadda get me one of those!
Then just for fun I built my own classical guitar in '87. I was going to fly to Spain one week-end and get one already made, but a craftsman-type friend suggested that I make my own! It WAS fun....it even plays!
....took longer than a weekend though....more like sixteen months!
Longer, considering the extra months spent researching and studying!
