ive just gotten my hands on a pair of stock sr80s for my brother for xmas, however i know they are terminated as 1/8. id rather have them terminated as 1/4 and im just wondering how hard/easy that is with the grado stock cable without totally recabling them? i have plenty of experience recabling other headphones, just not stock grado cables before, so i dont know what to expect although im sure it probably wont be too tough. can anyone whose worked with recabling/reterminating sr80s (or other similar entry level grados) comment or give any tips? cheers guys

thats what i assumed it probably would, what about the wires themselves? those dinky fine little ones that are common in almost every stock cable? assuming thats the case, those just need to be well tinned to remove that ceramic (not sure if thats the right terminology) colored layer from each one?

You can use pretty much any wire you want. Consider the wires out of LAN cable, or two runs of small lamp cord.
