They last forever, more or less. The real question is, how yellow are you going to let them get before you decide they're too disgusting to use anymore?

I used my first set of tips for more than six months, and cleaned them many times. However, no matter how much you clean them, they will always retain some of the yellowish color. I switched when I opened my Etymotic box and saw the color of real white eartips.

Anyway, try to clean your eartips on a regular basis, you might just feel cleaner yourself

. And if you do that, every time you clean you can check your filters for any sort of blockage or earwax that has gotten lodged in. That's pretty much the only reason to change a filter.

I've been using the same pair of silicon tips since jan. 2002 and they are still going strong. semi-regular cleaning and that's about it.

on another note i just changed my filters for the first time b/c i figured after 18 months or so they probably needed it. i didn't notice any sonic difference at all so maybe they didn't need to be changed after all.

my ety's are still without a doubt the best $270 i have ever spent.

cheers!

Haha. Yeah, I used them for several months before I switched over to the foamies which seem a bit more difficult to clean, but work slightly better for me. I would think the silicone tips would last quite a long time regardless of cleaning. They do get quite nasty looking without the cleaning though, so I would recommend that. They must not be all that healthy either. So with regular cleaning they should last as long as you don't mind the discoloration.

I read somewhere that you can soak them in Simple Green and it'll get rid of some of the discoloration...

well i think as a result of the fact i use the pod almost daily and i try to wipe them clean with my fingers every time i insert them, and normally on removal, they are pretty clean.

however, they do seem to have lost their shape somewhat. but they are FAR more comfy now! almost like they have moulded to my ear canal. dont think the isolation is "quite" as good anymore - perhaps because they are not "springing" against the canal to seal it?

Before I switched over to foamies (because of the better seal), I used to soak my flanged tips in rubbing alcohol.

1) It kills bacteria
2) It takes off oils
3) It dissolves dead skin to some extent

Then again, you could get custom earmolds and not have to worry about replacements ever again

custom molds dont really appeal to be honest......i like the silicon tips FAR more than the foamies. in fact i dont use the foamies - maybe i need to try the smaller ones........
