(For me,depends on how long i have to study..normally wear it all the times while i am at my desk
smily_headphones1.gif

- How do you deal with the isolation problems?
Such as pick up a phone or answer the door..because i can't figure out yet (at one time, the pest control guy actually camee into my apartmant and he had to shout behind me while i was wearing Sony V6)

I listen for usually about three hours during school if you add up all of the transition periods between class, my study periods, and my art class (I use music occasionally to enhance productivity in art). I also listen about four hours after school; sometimes in the morning.

On a normal school day, seven hours.

Weekends, i'd say nine hours.

LAN parties, nonstop volumes at about the 80dB cutoff point. Those don't happen very often though

I don't deal with isolation problems. I use HD600s and can hear everything around me or at least notice it if I'm jamming a bit louder than is normal. When things are too loud, the volume stays at the same level and I just move somewhere else. At home usually noise isn't an issue, at school either except the noisy hallways which I avoid

I eat batteries alive. If I didn't use rechargeables for my CD player and didn't have kind parents who donated AAAs for my airhead addiction I'd be in debt or enslaved to someone haha.

If I really don't wanna be bothered while I study, my headphones stay on from about 6:00pm till about 1 or 2am...(weekdays). Normally on weekdays its about from 9 or 10pm till about 2am. On weekends I listen in the morning for a couple hours (like from 10am to 12pm), then from about 9pm till 2am (if I'm home). I have HD280 Pros, so I always keep a house phone and my cell phone right in front of me so that I can see them light up when someone is trying to call because I can't hear the ring with my 'phones on.

On a good day I get in 3 hours or more at work (DT770) then an hour at the gym (ER4S) and an hour or 2 at home (what ever I am in the mood for, usually the DT880 lately).

At work I got one of those phone strobe lights (for the hearing impaired). Not much of an issue at home, but I could see how it could happen. Get a cell phone with a vibe feature (imho there should be no other type) and have people give you a buzz (nyuk) if they can't seem to get your attention.

Don't you use rechargeble AAA's aswell?
There are some very goods ones availeble these days. Up to 750-800 mAh. Much better then the old 200mAh NiCd.
Maybe I understood you wrong. But I wanted to mention it in case I didn't.
Seems a waste to use Alkaline AAA's Both for your parents wallet as for your the envirionment.

As for my headphone routine. I don't have one. Listen whenever I I want and get the change. Can be 20 min. a day or 5 hrs.

Contrary to a lot of beliefs, the sound quality of the Airhead series amps with rechargeable NiMH batteries isn't all that much worse than the same amp does with throwaway alkaline batteries. You see, the alkalines drop in the output voltage during use (in fact, alkalines average only about 1.2 volts in output during the usage lifespan of those batteries), while NiMH rechargeables maintain nearly full rated voltage throughout most of their between-charges run times. Sure, alkaline batteries may make the Airhead sound better than NiMHs do at first - but after running the amp on alkalines for about 10 to 15 hours, the sound quality from the Airhead will become equally as lame as the same amp does from half-discharged NiMHs. So sure, the Airhead may run for 40 hours on three throwaway AAA alkalines - but for more than half of that time, it won't sound any better than the same amp does with three rechargeable NiMHs.

I don't really listen to headphones for more than 3 or 4 hours a day at most.

I listen for a couple of hours at work while I am coding. Since my desk faces the door I don't really have a problem knowing when people want my attention. Neither the Audio-Technica or the Sony cans I have isolate well enough to block out the phone entirely. Which is a good thing since I'd rather not piss off my boss because he couldn't get my attention

.

At home, during the week, I usually listen for an hour to an hour-and-a-half to music before going to bed. On the weekends I might listen for a couple hours each day. Since I use the Senn. HD580 at home my wife has no problem being heard, no siree, no problem at all

. Actually, she is very good about leaving me alone to listen to music.

Maybe sooner i'd say.

Look at this:
nimh3_trans.GIF

It shows the voltage at a discharge of 375 mA at room temperature. GPxxxx means nimh batteries.
As you can see the alkaline batteries are better at the start but drop below the nimh very soon.

Cool, I'll have to pick some of those up soon. Lately I've been digging the sound of the AH out of a 9v wall wart. I have to start saving my beans for a really nice amp though. I like the headroom sound and really enjoyed the refinement of the cosmic amp that I heard at headroom.

How much do I listen in a day? Not near as much as I'd like to be able too. Basically I listen in the mornings until someone bugs me, then that's pretty much it unless it's Thursday when I don't have any classes and can stay home. Then, at the end of the day, I can listen for a bit and usually fall asleep listening to music as well. I wouldn't say more than a couple hours a day really...

I just got my first closed phones, so I'm really just starting to deal with the isolation. With my 580's I can hear things that go on fine, but when I'm wearing my Ultrasones...I don't even notice people in my room until they come up to me and put their hand on my shoulder or something. I don't really have to worry about phones or answering the door though
rolleyes.gif
So it's not that much of a problem. I bought the Ultrasones to keep sound both out and in, so it's doing the job perfectly.

There just aren't enough hours in a day to get all the schoolwork done that I need to, read up on head-fi, and listen to my headphones as much I want to, y'know? =^/ I hate that feeling like you're only getting more behind and backlogged each day...ugh...maybe I need to cut back on head-fi.
rolleyes.gif
Yeah, like that'll work for very long.

completely depends on the day and random states of nature

i wear my KSCs after 11:00 while on my computer.... it's one of them household respect thingies. So, anywhere from 2-4 hours there.

on Mon, wed, & fri, i wear my etys for about 1.5 hrs in the long 2 hr break between classes.... I'm usually out at the bottom of snake path at UCSD between 11 and 1 if you wanna visit, just look for the guy with the etys (sometimes i wear mx500s, but not too often).

on tues & thurs, don't have any breaks between classes, so headphone use is only in the late hours of the nite.

also, i wear my KSC-35s while playing CS, so that's anywhere from 0-3 hours in a day.

basically, 2-11 hours in a day.

as for isolation, KSCs don't isolate too well, and i listen to music rather softly, so i don't really have that problem.

I listen as much as I can at work. In fact, I've noticed a directly proportional relationship between the amount of music I can listen to at work, and how much I'm able to accomplish. This is probably due to the fact that I can't listen when I'm in meetings...

Anyway, recently, I've typically been averaging about half the work day, about 5 hours.

As for isolation, I tried doing the Ety thing at work, but I think having someone poke you in the back when you're deep in concentration takes can take years off your life...they just isolate too well. On the other hand, they're absolutely wonderful for all the cross-country business flights, where isolation is the perfect dream, and screaming kids and incontinent chit chatters (apologies to bangraman) are the imperfect reality. With normal closed cans, I can hear the phone, and someone directly addressing me, but not too much else. I also have one of those little convex mirrors so I can see behind me, which helps with situational awareness if I'm looking in its direction.

I also may wear headphones for a couple of hours at home while working on the computer at really late hours (like... oh... say... now).

I listen about 6 hours a day at work with Beyer DT250's.

I'm in a cube and face away from my "door". So I bought a CHIMP, which is a little round mirror that sticks to your monitor. They sell them at thinkgeek.com, but you could use one of those rearview mirrors that parents buy to watch there kids in the back seat of the car.
