I end up spending around 30 minutes with the EQ.. Then in the end, I end up going back to flat

i use foobar and have a few saved EQ settings for certain songs. Works well. One is just a bass boost, other i have for Exodus (bob marley).

how much time i spend...i spend until i get what i like. not long, 5 mins max.

Exactly.

I've messed around a little with the EQ in foobar a few times before, but in the end I always wind up turning it off. Thats where I like to keep it. I just dont feel good about having something besides the equipment itself changing the sound.

in my case, the equipment is seriously changing the sound and i am trying to fix it to sound like its supposed to... ideally i can just grab another pair of cans or plug into a different source, but i cant...

ive vaguely remembered some music-related forums i used to visit which dealt with ways to properly achieve a good EQ setting, i honestly forgot where i saw anything like that... but i do remember some basics, like start with the flat setting, then turn each band up to see which actually makes the sound worse, then turn that band down, if it sounds better up then obviously keep it up,then when youve covered the whole eq once, go through it again and again until every single change you do seems to make it worse
sooner or later you will 'get an ear' for it and be able to arrive at a conclusion as to which frequency is in excess or in shortage much quicker, but still be prepared to spend time on it anyway

No eq for PC playback.

Sometimes a little eq in my subwoofer for the car. You'd be surprised how uneven music is for subwoofers. Some stuff is so bloated with bass you have to practically turn it off, This is of course if you're going for balanced sound, where you cant really tell there is a sub at all, where everything just sounds 'full'.
