Just got the Senn HD414 pads I ordered for my RS-2. I would like to know, how large of a hole should I cut in them? And what would be the best thing to cut them with?

I've always thought a 4" hole was just right.

OK, you knew somebody was gonna be a smartass, might as well get it out of the way.

The general favorite is the size of a quarter. If you have a sharp exacto knife use a quarter, push the quarter to flatten the foam as flat as you can get it, then use the quarter to guide the exacto blade in a perfect circle. Try to cut all the way through in one pass.

Get a tea candle. The edges of them are usually kind of sharp. Sometimes you can cut the pads with just the edge of the tea candle itself by pressing it into the pad & wiggling it a bit - if not use a cutter to go around the candle.

I pressed a pound coin into it and cut around it very carefully. It turned out nice.

A quarter works as well. Note : Quarter-mod?

Since I like to use the 414 pads reversed, I usually cut the hole to match the one already there. I use a cuticle scissor as it is small, sharp, and curved making for a smooth circular cut.

photoshop.
the idea is to show the size of approximate cut
use the option A... for option B use the flats of Todd.

**in addition it is a RS-1 #2534 that is not mine.....mine is old #732**

Well I have tried the HD414 pads without and with the hole, without it, "anemic" would be the word that comes to mind to describe the sound. With it, it's not anemic, but it is way to bright and lacks authority.

Back to the flats

all right.

the 414 mod works fine for me, everything varies according to sinergía with the other components (amps + CD)

I agree, try the todd flats with option b. if it doesnt work just sell the flats and try the other option.

This whole thing is breaking my heart! I mean 414s on a woodie!!

The reason I'm mentioning it is the fact that right now I'm sitting here typing away with my phones on and they aren't trying to fall onto the keyboard!

My reversed 414s on my MS-1s are comfortable and stable. My bowls on my MS2i are comfortable enough, but they aren't the least bit stable. If I were wearing my MS2i I'd be picking my cans up from between the keys.

Reversed 414s on MS-Pro......interesting consideration.

The question would be would the SQ with 414s on MS-Pro be better....to my ears...than my MS2i with bowls?

I wonder.

----------

......ok; it's just the weight that makes the MS2i unstable. And the head bobbing that gets them moving! If I hold relatively still and look down; they don't really want to fall.

Ok then; that's the answer. Wear the MS2i while typing; just don't listen to music!!
