I'm really surprised at how our local cable company is trying to squeeze us. Some say the key is to order Internet only and you may get basic cable for free. Some systems make you pay a full $50 for Internet if you don't order an expensive premium cable package. I'm curious how high your bill is (not a public poll). I do not condone cable or satellite theft, but I am curious at how people are saving money.

Comcast bill for internet cable, digital cable TV with HD option with a HD-DVR cost about 130 each month including taxes. I have no premium channels such as HBO, Showtime.

The telephone companies are coming into the mix with some very competitive pricies.

You are? Lots of faith in the innate generosity of semi-monopolist big business, I guess...

We're paying around $43 for cable, plus $46 for cable internet. Believe me, they'd be going after triple or quadruple that amount if they thought they could get it. Or twenty times that amount.

Yup. Consider that WiMax will get closer to residential areas with Sprint's new investments, Verizon's EV-DO is also getting better, there is such a poor offering of HD Channels in Cable, Cooperative WiFi Internet Sharing is more common, and you'd think Cable Companies are just trying to kill off their remaining customers!

I just switched to Comcast after having Dish Network for a long time. My bill is over $100 with 4 dvr/digital boxes, HBO/Cinemax, and Howard Stern On Demand.

$58.00 for basic comcast + Cable internet. Around $9.00 for phone (Viatalk voip)

If comcast are running internet promotion, usually we called them and get them to put us into that promotion, we got twice '6 month for $19.99' internet bill.

We also got XS Sony tv which have its own built in digital tuner so we only need to have basic comcast to get some local hd channel and the good news is we also get some channels which are unscrambled such as Animal planet, History, MTV. Some channels like HBO, National geography are random meaning it come and goes. It's annoying when the channels are gone in the middle of a movie however we pay basic so we got nothing to complain about.
I also prefer to get unlimited DVD rental from blockbuster or planet hollywood near our place instead of relying on HBO, cinemax etc to see our movie.

edit: Btw, I'm jealous for those people in Japan and Korea which able to get like 20 MB down for their internet. We should get that internet service for how much we paid here. But I also know there's no such thing as unlimited download for our fellows in Aussie. They got limited data download, that's suck big time. I don't think I can manage that with the way our bittorrent running here

Do you have verizon on your area? My friend got those $15.00 DSL + local phone for total of around $38.00/month, not bad since she's a light internet user.

$89 for internet and cable tv. Cable includes the family package plus HBO and a DVR. Not home much so the DVR comes in handy, fun piece of equipment actually.

Wow, you guys sure are paying a lot.

Things are much cheaper in Hong Kong because of stern competition. I pay some US $16 per month for unlimited broadband internet access and people say I'm a sucker -- they normally get by with something like US$12.

I don't have time for satellite or cable TV. Although the ISP tried to lure me into a free 18-month trial of cable TV, I refused because they may just "forget" when my trial period expires, and I'll end up paying things I don't need.

About $35 per month for 3mb down and 1.5 mb up. I dropped cable in October 1999 and stopped watching TV. Tough for the first month, but I don't miss TV at all. It really freed up my time. I recommend it to anyone.
