I never gave it some thought to use my computer as a source when building my computer. I just happened to get and Advance AC97 Audio soundcard with 5.1 surround and optical out. Is this worth keeping if i plan on adding a Micro Dac and headamp Ae-1?

Thanks.

It's absolutely rubbish. As I understand it the ac97 is a codec on a chip and is only used for on-board motherboard sound now. You only have to spend money on a m-audio audiophile or emu 0404 and you'll notice a *huge* difference in sound quality.
