Well, I've read there are many excellent mp3 encoders, but not as friendly as Itunes or Musicmatch, Am I right?
I've tried Lame but I have not been able to rip..... please, I tried anothe one, is German, very reccomended but it is in a BETA version, and when I tried to install it, it reboot my pc.....
I can't think that itunes or Musicmatch use poor mp3 encoders...

By the way, I haven't been able also to find a friendly Ogg Orbis encoder.......

Help.....

it really is very simple,
All you do is rip the wav file from the CD using EAC, there are several setup guides around the place, I am sure someone will chime in with t=which one to follow.
All you need after that is the Lame frontend and the Lame 3.90.3 encoder from the hydrogen audio website.
That is all you need.
If you are unable to google and find them then ust say so and I will try to find and post links

Sorry, but I still think that lame is it. I would recommend the EAC-Bundle 1.3 (download here: http://www.forum.eac-audio.de/index....=8index-de.php) including OGG and much more. As for the EAC Beta status: Don´t mind - this software is very fine, simply the best there is and quite easy to use...

Help!!!, I downloaded the EAC beta version to my desktop, then double clicked the icon, and then I got a blue screen stating ( serious error) ad the pc reboot by itself. When it turned back on, I got a message saying that windows XP recovered from a serious error....................
So I'm really afraid to try it again, since it's a beta version and there is a warning stating that they are not responsible for any damage to the pcs and hard drives.....that this is at our own risk........

You said that before and I tell you again, that the beta-status of EAC is no problem. Try the EAC-Bundle.

Ok, I got the EAC Bundle working, I dowloaded the Lame dll and put it in the folder and I can even get the song names of the original wav cd on the screen. Then I select compression options, mp3 Lame mp3 encoder, parameter:C:\Program Files\Exact Audio Copy\LAME.EXE but I only get to rip the wav files to my desktop, and when I check them, they are still in wav!!!!, no mp3. Excuse my ignorance....how to conver them?

My next question would be, is EAC an ALL IN ONE converter? I see that I even have the option the conver to ORGG Vorbis........

If I had not dowloaded de Lame dll, would I still be able to rip mp3?

Thanks

the link you gave goes to the page for the bundle, so I'm guessing that's what he downloaded. Just saying it's "no problem" isn't going to solve a repeated serious errors and BSOD (blue screen of death). Do you have any more details as to how it's no problem, or how to get past the errors encountered?

If you're having that much trouble (or if you're into easier interface, as I am), you can just download CDeX. Windows friendly, works terrific, supports Lame3.0xx, just plain works easily. I'm reasonably computer literate but just did not wish to take the time to fuss with all the switches and command line bull of EAC. Got better things to do.
Also, CDeX rips to mp3 on the fly - no need for the WAV intermediate step if you don't want to.

@Mariowar

Have you downloaded and installed the EAC Bundle 1.3 (just saw that there is a 1.4 already)? If so, there is no need to download any further .dll etc..

You choose your en-/decoder and its settings by clicking the arrow at the bottom-line of the EAC-program. For LAME: Choose the MP3 LAME conversion settings you prefer (I use the high-quality VBR at ~256 bit). Go to the folder "Compression Settings" (External Compression). In the line "Program to be used for external compression" you should read: "C:\Eac\Codecs\lame3.90.3.exe" (if using the bundle - else "...lame3.96.exe" or whatever version you use). Now you may change the (long) entry in the field "Command Line Options" to a simple "--alt preset extreme %s %d" (to give you the example for VBR ~256; for VBR ~192 use the word "standard" instead of "extreme"). Afterwards you should save this entry using the "Save"-button second next to the above mentioned arrow in the bottom line. Everything should be fine by now. Put in your CD, wait for the CDDB data to arrive, choose and select the songs you wish to convert and press the MP3 button (not the WAV-button). And there you go.... By the way: If you wish to keep both on your hdd - the MP3 as well as the read out WAV files - just uncheck the appropiate button in the Compression Settings.

For further guidance please use the links above. This one may help you too: http://www.digital-inn.de/showthread.php?t=27378.

Mariowar - as far as I understood - seemed to be afraid that his bluescreen error may have occurred due to the EAC beta-status. That was what I referred to, since EAC runs fine on so many PCs includng mine. As his last posting shows, Mariowar got EAC installed without another bluescreen at last.

@vranswer

CDex is a fine program too, but EAC - in the opinion of most users, mine included -, is the most accurate when it comes down to reading out CDs. You don´t have to use the command-line-options if you don´t want to (I am no friend of them either) but they are easy to use once understood. And EAC is a one button on the fly converter too after it is properly configuered. Using one of the guides in the www this configuration can be handled quite easily.

Please excuse my English and good night...

Went through exactly what you are in the early stages of using EAC. Here's the solution I found.

First, in the EAC/Compression option window under "external compression" check the box for using an external program for compression and make sure you select "user defined encoder" in the parameter passing scheme. File extension will be .mp3 of course. Next browse and point to the lame.exe you have in your EAC folder. Finally, make sure you have the correct command line listed in the "additional command line options:" I use the following: --alt-preset extreme %s %d

Many say you can't hear the difference in standard vs extreme but being the anal retentive type that I am, I would always wonder so I went extreme....but only because I didn't have the room for the insane setting!

Rip 'em again and you'll have the world's best mp3's! Good luck

well, thanks a lot for the input, I just got home and downloaded the Bundle 1.4, install it and when the program was about to open , BLUE SCREEN, error, and my pc reboot........ when it turned back on, a message showed that Windows Xp recovered from a serious error........
I could download it and install it at the office but not here. This has to do with some compatibility issues, that's why it's a betta version.
This pc(laptop) is one year old, Pentium Centrino 1.5 1 gig ram, 80 gigs hard drive........ So' Ill be going to CDex!!!

By the way, knowing that EAC and cdex both use lame for mp3, why cdex is not as reccomended as EAC?
